What constitutes a "secret" alliance [Outdated]

I'm new here, hence I ask.

So, in one of my games, I used the game chat (that all players can read btw) and I proposed a non-aggression pact with one of the others. Since everyone can read the game chat, I saw it as a very public thing, nothing secret. But I was yelled at by one of the other players as forming a "secret alliance". Does this constitute a secret alliance? I understand forming them through a player's inbox, email, or with your coworkers at lunch would be, because they would be outside of the confines of the game.

Thanks for any clarification.

You can form an alliance anyway you like, as long as the alliance is announced in game chat. I have, on occasion, formed an alliance over MSN and announced it in game chat. That is perfectly legal. So is forming it by pm, and announcing it in game chat. That is also perfectly legal. The way you were doing it was perfectly legal, as all the details were in game chat. The person yelling "SECRET ALLIANCE!!!" is either just upset or doesn't know the rules.

A secret alliance would be forming an alliance over live chat, pm, MSN/other IM, ect. and NOT announcing it in game chat.

I just checked the game, the other bloke can't spell secret, or alliance, so not much to worry about. As for whether it is breaking a rule, what you said seemed completely legit, I would just ignore it and carry on as normal.

alot of people refuse to read the rules, just give em the url explaining what you are doing and hopefully they will be less bitchy in a game
