Be Aware C C automatically will bill you

I have been a member of C C since its 1st year, every year I have gotten a notice that my premium fee was coming due, not this year. They will automatically bill you if they have a credit card number and they will NOT credit you if you want your money back. This was the email after I complained. Way to piss off an original member C C

Refunds are only possible if you were double charged at the same time and the 2nd
duplicate charge can be refunded. Other than that, all sales are final.

When you purchase premium membership, it immediately states, "Annual or Quarterly
Subscription". Right there, it's already saying what is being offered is a Subscription.

Then there is a clickable link there called [Info] that will show the benefits of being a
premium and then another clickable link that states [Terms] which provides more
information regarding the terms of the subscription. Please take time to read this.

Also, when you initially bought your premium, you get a receipt that says "Premium
Membership - Annual/Quarterly Subscription [Terms]"

It is indicated in the Terms that recurring premium subscriptions will renew automatically
until a member cancels his/her Premium Membership subscription.

As every premium package is a subscription, meaning it is like investing for your premium
to make sure it will not run out when it expires, payments will re-occur as needed.

You can always stop the subscription anytime from the Store tab, then click on Account.
Under Active Subscriptions, if you are still subscribed, you should see an option there
that says, "Unsubscribe". Clicking on it will prevent you from being charged again on the
next billing cycle. This is up to you if you want to do this.

The Store tab is located inside the Personal Menu. You can view any existing subscriptions
to your account from the Account page and any further information about your account.

We apologize if it has caused any confusion. If there is anything else you need, please do
not hesitate to contact us again.

This is the first year I have ever been automatically billed without being asked, I was never notified, I never agreed to it, my point is if they have your credit card number they will bill it every year as long as the card is good. Just be aware.

If you bought the subscription instead of credits, then it does auto bill as it's a subscription.
If you want one time purchase, you have to buy the CC credits and then get the premium using credits.

Subscription = $30 and one time is more

Why not remind people before their subscription is up for renewal? Seems like it would fix the problem.

Exactly Sym, I am old enough to remember Columbia Records who used to send you an album ( I can see the googles now to a see what that is) every month whether you wanted it or not once you had signed up, the trick was/is they have your credit card number, don't believe for a second they will not bill you as they choose, all they needed to do to appease me was credit my charge, they chose gobbely gook, am just warning, if you choose to defend them I want your credit card number too.

Interesting, I sign up for quite a few subscriptions on the iTunes Store. Guess what exactly zero of them do?

It's a subscription, it's directly in the name. If you don't want it anymore you simply go to accounts and unsubscribe.

You didn't really answer the question. That other people do the same seems like a bit of a dodge.

It's not a dodge at all. It's a proven business model that most Internet games have adopted. CC would be stupid to not adopt what has been proven to work and stick with what doesn't.

See I disagree. I dont believe a subscription is, by definition, auto renewing.

Had the same conversation with BW who told me it was clearly explained in the terms. I found it at about the 10,000 word mark. I dont know how I could have missed it. BW did seem surprised that I thought not many people would read that whole document.

Yet still a lot of people are surprised about this and it could all be cleared up by saying it the store "Recurring Subscription" or even in the confirmation invoice looking thing.

Wow, I am agreeing with Sym (better do a drug and alcohol test. ok all good). Just because others do it doesnt mean it is the right thing to do. Does "proven business model", simply mean it generates more cash? Lots of dodgy things would qualify

as much as i want to jump in here and be a smart ass with a snarky comment to bait someone into losing their mind, this response from Gary really sums up the issue. yes, it was hotly debated in the past. nobody was asking for CC to change the policy. perhaps a little auto email that reminds you, "hey, we are about to charge your S***, so act accordingly within a week to either unsubscribe or leave it all in place."

i think there isn't really a debate anymore, we all realize WHY it is being done. i think CC should have figured out how to alert people before the charges are run again. i mean, there are a ton of online sites that i give my cc info to, then before the 1 month trial is up, they send an alert, "yo, we are about to charge you for full membership, unless you change your settings before X date." i think CC should look into something like that... anyway, the debate is long over, CC's silence on the matter is what seems to be the issue now.

just send out a pre-emptive alert... the black jesus has spoken and is amazingly level headed considering the night of SXSW debauchery he has just walked through his front door from...-Jésus noir

It's a dodge- He posted no reason for why CC shouldn't do it, which was the question, and only said that other people do it. Other posters have noted how flawed that argument is, so I'll let you deal with them.

What, though, is the problem with reminding people?

Absolutely nothing wrong with reminding people. However, even with a reminder there are people who will forget to renew, and that represents a lot of lost revenue. That is why 90% of Internet sites use a subscription system nowadays.

The problem isn't with the idea of a subscription. It's with the lack of notice with the renewal. Can we count you on the notifying people that their is a renewal coming up side now?

What makes you think I have anything to do with it?

That's the business side of CC. Neither I nor any other mod has any say in it. We do our best to explain management's decisions to the members, but we are not consulted about those decisions.

Not really, mate. Just an accurate description. If you're not consulted about decisions, how can you say anything about them? At some point, surely, they consult you about what they have decided.

So how does it work Duke?
