Is it just me or is account sitting completely retarded?
Like, I'm playing 5 games with some guy in a tournament. For about half the game his account has been managed by other people, so essentially I'm now playing 5 games against other people.
Someone covering your account for a day or so is fair enough, but taking a dozen or more turns for you? If you can't manage to be present for that much of the game you ought to just suck up the loss like a champ imo

It is silly, but good luck tearing it away from clan games.
most clan wars are fought by 2-3 guys from each side, dictating each and every move or playing each and every move. just another issue with the clown world, account sitting abuse. i fully agree with Mr here. if you know you are going to be away, don't start so many games, don't join a clan war, don't be a general dick. real world emergency or your game load of less than 2,000 games need to be sat for a weekend away with the family, sure... this is just another site abuse that is legislated as ok, due to clans declaring it so... i'm sorry you are experiencing this, it is nothing new... the black jesus has stood in solidarity with the victim of this site abuse...-Jésus noir

IcePack is now a legislator. Awesome.
I agree about the sitting. That has happened to me in tournaments as well

The rule is to not start or accept new games if you're not present to play them, but with an auto-tournament you are put into the games automatically, so unless the sitter deadbeats how is it supposed to be avoided?

In China they offer sitting activities and leveling up for cheap prices. mrswdk is just jealous we're offering competition completely free of charge.

And one is supposed to do what, when playing a doubles or more tournament, and someone's vacation comes up six months into the tournament?

When I played, I would continue to take my turns, even when on vacation. Or do people tend to vacation in desolate wastelands?

Some people have travelling partners who don't appreciate you playing games on your computer whilst on vacation.

Then either don't travel with those people and/or divorce them, or tell them that your feelings and needs are more important than listening to them bitch you out about this.
Priorities, man.

Honourably forfeit the game, as in pretty much every other game or sport when a player or team has to drop out due to circumstances foreseen or unforseen?
Just an idea.

Symm might be more understanding if he ever played the actual game or joined a tournament. Rumor has it he was asked to host a tourney, his reply is in saxitoxin's signatue.

No phone or Internet = desolate wastelands?
I like going to places where people have not caused much change. Often there is no electricity there other than the batteries you bring and definately no cellular service, Internet is definately a couple days walk away.
Last week I was with a guy I used to work with, only a little over a two hour drive from our houses, trying to pull fish out of a small lake. I was actually surprised to have no cellular service in this spot but there was none.
Last turn I missed was on vacation, not because we were away from Internet service but because I was on vacation and thought I checked my turn that morning but must have checked it the morning before. Oops.
I think you would like sitting outside by a fire in a place without Internet and phones more than you suggest you might. Most people drink alcohol while doing it.

Many tournaments last a year or more. Theoretically everyone should have at least one vacation during that time period. If everyone followed your suggestion, everyone would forfeit and the whole thing would be a failure.

In this day and age, that qualifies. You misunderstand my tone; I'd love it. I found the U.P. of Michigan to be a bit spotty with reception in places as well. Granted, I've not had the pleasure of going some place sans any access for more than a 24 hour period, as the vacations I tend to go on revolve around cities. But I've visited some beautiful "wastelands" in Michigan and Colorado especially that I'd love to just hang out in without my tether.

In Canadian aviation we call them, sparsely settled areas. Yellow stone is nice, Glacier also. There is a bunch of Idaho, Montana and Utah that are nice.
The parts of Washington and Oregon we were at are also nice but with cellular service.

I've got family in Montana. Near Bozeman. Should go out and visit one day.
Close to Yellowstone too.

Fair point, but perhaps the fault is in the way such tournaments are organised. If it's going to take years, postponing games for a week or two shouldn't be a huge hassle.
I still think that the honorable thing to do in the OP's situation would be to forfeit, but perhaps a postponement is a good workaround.
