Real-life play

I've been printing off copies of maps I like on this site (siege, King of the mountain, Australia) across four pages, gluing them together and putting them on cardboard so I can play them in real life with my friends.

(Yes I win, despite the fact that here I have a rating of 550....wait...make that 525...515....500...)

I'm just wondering...are there any copyright/legal problems with that?
Does anyone else do it? If not...it's a lot of fun.

No, you're not breaking any copyright laws. I know several other users that print off maps to play on and they all said it's awesome.

But yeah, as long as the map maker doesn't specifically ask you not to do this, I would assume it's fine.

The maps here are covered by copyright:
[Official] How to Make a Map wrote:The Copyright Agreement

The author retains copyright on their work, and gives Conquer Club permission to use the imagery free of charge, as Conquer Club sees fit for as long as Conquer Club sees fit on the Conquer Club website. Conquer Club cannot sell, lease, or lend the right to use the images to anyone else. The author swears that their map is their own work, or a legal derivative work and by submitting it, do hereby claim all responsibility for that being true.

Whether printing them out for non-commercial use to play with your friends is 'Fair Use' in copyright terms I can't say, as IANAL.

I can say that for any maps I put up, I'd be happy to have people play them here or at some non-commercial event like a home game.

good good. Well, I assume no one has a problem with it - if I made a map, i would be pretty flattered if people cared enough to print it up and use it.

Anyways, I made up a couple fun variations of Siege! for real life play (obviously you can't do it on the site.)

Variation 1: No one starts out with the throne: instead, 15 neutral troops are placed there. If you are able to hold the throne, you get 3 or 5 extra reinforcements per turn.

Variation 2: Only territories that are part of the river camp, woods camp, forest, swamp, midlands and plains are distributed. All other territories (the territories that are part of the tunnel and castle) are occupied by neutral armies. If you hold the throne, you get no more reinforcements but you get to throw an extra die when you attack. (So you get to throw 4 dice (sweet!) but if you only have 3 armies on a territory you get to throw 3 dice, etc.) I made a crown token so if you hold the throne you get the token!

These are fun variations. I would highly recommend them. Especially the second one - it's really like trying to siege a castle! And the first one to "become king" gets extra king power! Sweet.
