What maps has anyone come across that should be steered clear of in 2 player games?
King of the Mountains isn't a good one, in my experience.
Circus Maximus
World 2.1

From what i've experienced, the king of the mountains map is the most challenging in the 1v1's because of the helipads and the kings.

I've only tried it once in 1v1 and I must say I've been scared off it for life. My opponent started out with complete control of yellow mountain, as well as having control of four of the five Kings and he also got to attack first...didn't leave me much hope in hell of winning

I think the key to 1 v 1 is to play the smaller maps with no cards, that kind of helps with the first turn advantage problem I've found.

I beat riggable in five turns on this map. Just get the helipads.

Basically, the more territories on the map, the less fair it is for a 1 v 1 game. Any of the maps with 42 territories work great for 1 v 1 since the first player only starts with 4 reinforcements. Thats always easier than playing on the 56+ territory maps where first player has a bigger advantage by starting with 6 or more reinforcements.

the 2 player games seem to be more about dice rolls over anything else. I just got finished playing great lakes a couple days ago. I started off going second with a horrible first round and then ended up getting pushed around for the first 4 rounds. After that my apponent had a bad run of the dice and I played conservative for the win. If it wasn't for his poor dice round I would've been done 2 rounds after...

I agree with the dice being the key component in the two player games. You'll go from being on equal footing as far as men go to being down 15 in one turn.

Hell yeah! I'm feeling that pain right now because I didn't quit while I was ahead, lol. I had 15 men v 9 and now it's 1 v 2 :S And they get the 8 men bonus for holding the Brown territory in Middle Earth.
DON'T GO TO THE CIRCUS!!

How true, every 1-1 I've set up has been with chained fortifications.

This is probably why I don't play 2 player games.

Yep, it was horrible for me too. The other guy went first and got his bonus with all his armies nicely positioned. the dice then screwed me when I tried to break his bonus and that was as good as the end of it.
I'm beginning to consider avoiding 1v1 full stop

Why are the dice so bad in 2 player games?
Is there a reason for this, cos I got a few games going on right now and getting nowhere with terrible dice.
I am just losing score over and over again!

i found that the world map was actuelly quite good in 1v1...
dunno why but it just has that... buzz to it which rawkz my sockz
hence why most of the time iv played 1v1, iv played it in world map.
i recken seige would either be really good or really bad... depends on ya drops... from experience i actuelly liked seige...
basically the problem in maps with loads of territories... its annoyin and almost makes ya crazy and that maps that are to small... basically who ever goes first is likely to win or who ever has the unfair advantage...
in the end it really depends on the players point of veiw... if someone likes the challange of world2.1 in 1v1 games then so be it... gd luck to them
