Throwing games for points

Is this allowed?

I've seen a couple of people say they are deliberately throwing the game to the winning parties because they will 'lose less points' that way.

It's irritating because the game is still undecided if they bother to continue trying to win; they could even hold on and come back possibly.

I don't think they're punishing people for that, but it is frowned upon by many.

This.

It's rude, but not explicitly against the rules.

Game throwing is explicitely against the rules. This kind of behaviour should be punished.

what about starting hundreds of games over 3 years and not ever taking one single turn... should that be punished or should the offender be running free in the forums and once again (finally) playing games?-Jn

nope... temporary site ban while it was all figured out, and then right back into the forums and finally taking turns in games... the rules here are arbitrary at best... losing a game in a manner to minimize your pt. loss is nothing new around here... we just had a case where a guy was playing over 200 games and keeping his losses and wins in order to maximize his points... huge rank swings with those huge point drops and gains... the solution? "noted"... however, the user stated it was such a drain to manage all those games, he would never do it on that level again.. on THAT LEVEL.. we all do it... i have games going and lost a few faster than i would have if i wanted to fight to the end, to maximize my point gain against a higher ranked player... anyway.. it isn't against the rules... but on a massive scale, it looks really shady!-Jn

The situation described by the OP has nothing to do with taking loss first and win afterwards.
As long as you don't miss turn or take hostage you can, of course, play your game faster if you lose and slower if you win.
But, throwing the game to the higher ranked team while the game can still be win by anyone, that's not normal. In anyway throwing the game to the highest ranked is always a shitty behaviour that should be punished with a points reset every time just so people learn to care less about points (imo). That's soooooo cheap.

it kind of does, because they are choosing to lose to a team with more points so they don't lose as many points to another team... they are selectively deciding who they want to lose to, based on points. they have determined the game is over... i can't see the board, so i don't know if it is really over or if they are just pussies... anyway, it is the same situation, determining the best outcome for your points...-Jésus noir

I see it as totally different.
Sure the purpose is the same, getting more points.
But what matter the most is who win at the end.
That you play slow or fast will not affect the outcome of the game.
That you throw all you have on the low rank to ensure high rank win does affect the outcome of the game. That's the problem.

we can agree to disagree... choosing when to lose to minimize point loss is the same regardless of how you do it... you can play slow, you can suicide, you drop and end, whatever/however you choose to do it. at the end of the day, the outcome is the same... you are doing what is most beneficial for your pts...-Jésus noir
