Accused: whamBot

The accused are suspected of: Inappropriate Chat in Global Chat

Comments: Not sure who is charge of whamBots comments today, but a line may have been crossed... especially considering multiple female members were in chat at the time of this post in global by whamBot:

This was totally inappropriate and I feel that if this was viewed by the wrong individuals this could potentially cause a lot of issues for this site.
As owenshooter has said, I do not know who is in charge of the bot chat but they need to reconsider what they think is humorous or if this was a error in spelling they need to be more careful next time.
There is absolutely nothing funny nor humorous about rape.

The aim of the wise is not to secure pleasure, but to avoid pain.

Although it looks inappropriate, the bots combine topics in the news with random phrases to essentially banter gibberish talk. No one is manually controlling what it would say in the chat. The bots are not human and it just say things sometimes that are absurd. Sometimes it randomly gives the appearance of a coherent thought, and sometimes it randomly might be contorted into something being offensive. Take Global chat for what it is... it comes and goes, it is not stored, and what you say there can easily be forgotten. Global Chat helps to make the site more lively and interesting and the bots just goes about with random nonsense talk. I don't think it says things like that regularly so for this instance, feel free to ignore what it said and not to take it seriously. Continue to concern yourself with other humans in global chat.

Can bots use the F word in chat? Or will they be censored like humans?

Not even sure how this could be tested as bots chat is not controlled by humans, but as the chat program is separate, I think it would be censored. As a chat mod, I am censored when I say a banned word on the test site, so i guess that would carry through to the bots due to the fact I can mute/ban the bots in chat.

I didn't think this thread was serious... was it???? I thought we all knew how whambot works.... when he came out, people used to say all kind of nonsense in their gamechats against him, lots of funny shit would happen because he uses phrases with usernames and also repeats words you've used that he then uses in his own determined phrases... There must be an old topic where we all copy pastes whambot discussions. It was pretty funny.

So if it randomly comes up with "I think all you <insert random minority group here> are retards who should be exterminated" because that's been in the news, that's perfectly okay and isn't going to lead to any unfortunate offence or consequences?
If that's a possibility then I think bots should be excluded from the chat until they can be made more intelligent.

I think it could potentially deter new members from staying with the site. After you explained it, I'm not sure what to do. Maybe just take the bots out of chat until the problem can be discussed?

How is it a problem?

Most of the time the bots say things that are outright silly. Once in a while they accidentally stumble across something that is actually thought-provoking. That's how conversations start.

Again, how is that a problem?

I don't care of they are bots, that sort of banter about rape is totally inappropriate. As a woman I not only find it offensive, it makes me uncomfortable to be part of a site that considers it funny or silly. It is neither.

It's a subject that's current in the news. Saxibot just randomly picks things that are trending in the news and throws them out there to start conversation. It's not saying that it's funny or silly.

If I start a conversation about taxes, it's probably not because I think taxes are funny, but maybe I think a lot of people have opinions about them.

If you actually read some of the reviews of India's Daughter (which is what has put rape back on the front pages) you will find that the director of the film (who happens to be a woman) did not find it funny or silly at all. She did, however, think that people should spend more time talking about it.

I don't see it as an error. The point of the bots is to stimulate conversation when there isn't any. Most of the time it's silly, but there's no rule that it should always be. If the bots stumble across some serious subjects and get some serious conversations going, so much the better.

Owen please stop grandstanding and using these inappropriate bot utterances to further your warped racial crusade. Black Jesus, White Devil, why not just drop the race drum for a second and focus on this topic. Well spotted btw. Please keep up the good work, and keep the diversive race shit to a minimum.
How difficult would it be to ban some words or phrases from a bot's vocabulary?

-----Oh! My God!.just stop..if you've read my first ever posts. Me and Qwert did battle. I'll defend free speech....I guess only Thomas Paine knows Common Sense. First I love History,I'm a Roman Catholic ,Republican..But come on,why not just have the Bots tell jokes as well. Like one my History teacher who was Jewish. A Jewish person went to his Rabbi and said. "I won 150 million dollars in the lottery. Says I am giving you(the church/etc.) 50 million. I am keeping 50 million." The Rabbi says "what are you doing with the other 50 million." He tells the Rabbi,"I am giving it to the Nazi party." What?,"the Rabbi gasps"..He said,"Yes The Nazi Party, holds his arm up,where do you think I got the winning numbers." So yeah ...Let the bots talk about rape, child abuse etc. Who cares.. As long as it gets people talking..ConfederateSS.out!(The Blue and Silver Rebellion).
