How much do you care about your rank?

Postby dcowboys055 on Tue Jun 05, 2007 9:17 pm

Some people realllly care about their rank, and some don't care at all. On a scale of 1-10 where do you fall?

2 or 3. I don't care whether or not I win or lose a game, as long as I have fun :) But, on the same not, it's always nice to go up a rank.

9 or 10. it's not my "rank" specifically, but just going up in points (splitting hairs here). every hundred point line, i'm hungry for the next one. i gotta get back to 2500. when i do, i'll obsess about 2600. and so forth.

hecter has a difference between fun and winning. sometimes i envy that

for me they're the same thing

i voted 3-4. i care enough to avoid being the last in standings but usually if i have fun in a game i don't care if i lose. i enjoy great tactics and unexpected turn of events and not to forget a joyfull chat

Since the new ranks, I've cared less and less.
I voted 1-2, because right now, I'm in it for having some fun with my doubles partners, and the clan I'm in (GO RORF!)
Also, risk is supposed to be fun, and when you lose the fun, to me, you lose the game.
If I ever quit having fun, I would 100% quit the site :)
Good luck-

not at all but that is probably because I have never gotten above 1300, so it's not like I have any rank to take pride in

3.

I wouldn't like to become cook and I care slightly for my rank but I play for fun, not rank.

7-8. While the most important thing is to have fun, I find that that often comes from winning. Winning gives you points, which makes you go up in rank, so, indirectly, I guess I do care about rank.

7-8 rank motivates me to keep playing. I like to win, but I do not play just to win, (e.g. no tantrums when i loose) I like my rank going up, but I think I am going to hit my head pretty soon

At the moment I'm quite interested in rank... not so much it prevents me from playing the games I like to play though, and I wouldn't care that much if I was soon demoted. I guess I'm more interested to see how high I can go. When I start to plateau out (I'm surprised it hasn't happened already!) I think I will stop caring about rank at all.

It adds a fun dimension I think, something to play for, but at the end of the day its important to remember its just a game. Its just as fun to play when you are captain or major as when you are a cadet or cook, whether you care about rank or you couldn't care less. So keep having fun all! :)

Yeah, have to say I don't really care about rank so much since I fluked my way to no 1. Though it is good to have a high rank, as you get invited to lots of fun games against really skilled players. They must laugh at me and say "who is this n00b who made it to no. 1 and how has he stayed there for more than a few days"

I'll be more than happy to hand over the conquerer's crown once yosevuk catches up

You've actually done rather well up there - your win percentage is quite high and you can't have lost more than about 100 points.

I also agree with Genghis Kahn - while I do care about my rank I still play what I like playing (mostly standard), which is probably why I'm still a sergeant.

In the meta-game (how do I get my rank higher) I have little interest: 2

But, while I play to have fun, and can have fun even when losing, I vastly prefer to win. As winning connotes skill, and skill earns respect, the public metric of skill is important. In that aspect, I rate concern for rank: 6.

In the end, the question is how it affects decisions. I don't intend to let concern over rank limit what games I play. I'll just have to win all of the games with lots of points at risk. ;)

This is pretty close to my opinion, though I really, really like to win.

I play for the adrenaline rush you get when making a pivotal, game changing attack (like a possibly game-clinching elimination). This only happens by playing well enough to be in that position. This means that you end up winning often enough to improve your rank. Thus, ultimately, I do care about my rank. Like Neph, however, I tend to look at each 100 pt. barrier as a goal more than the rank assigned to it.

I voted 5-6.

I've only got 7 games under my belt so I am only a Pvt. FC, so I have some work to do to get up to where I would like to get. But I can see myself getting to a certain point and trying to find a point at being content where I am. Because I know I will probably never be #1 or a Colonel or anything like that.

7-8. I see achieving the higher ranks as a challenge and I love a good challenge. 8)
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?
