Dice Patch

Postby richnpoor on Tue Jun 05, 2007 5:15 pm

These dice definately need a patch ....there is no way they are generating random numbers consistently.

They seem to get stuck on win or lose. I have noticed that if I lose 2 men 3 times in a row while Im attacking i will continue to lose 2 men with each roll no matter how long it goes

I actually tried an experiment with this in a game which cost me the game I had 32 men to attack 6 after killing off 2 of my opponent I lost 2 men 3 times in a row so I kept rolling just to see how long it would go on.

I rolled 11 more times attacking the same country from the same country didnt change a thing and lost 2 men 11 more str8 times added to the original 6 thats 28 and i only killed 2

The same think happens if you are attacking a country with only 1 on it and you lose 3 times in a row. I tried same experiment and lost 10 more straight

How is it possible when rolling 3 dice to 1 to have the single die beat you for 13 consequative rolls. thats 39 to 13 and didnt win once

I'd vote to have posts like this removed, or at least the OP warned or some sort. Trolling like this is a plague to forums. =/

I do feel for you - I really do.But in a real game of risk the same thing happened to me and they were my own dice, I had no one to complain to and my opponants enjoyed the hell out of it at my own embarressment

Quite frankly they told me to suck it up cupcake

EVERYONE HAS BAD DICE. IT DOESNT MAKE YOU LOSE ANY MORE THAN IT MAKES YOUR OPPONENTS LOSE!

I've been doing a lot of sucking it up lately. I'm currently on an almost 600 point downswing in the last 5 days. It's rough, but I figure, I'm due for a 800 point upswing, right?

Go _here_ and roll 16000 dice. Then post back here with the actual dice statistics.

If you have a problem with the dice take it up with http://www.random.org/. They provide the dice. If you ever find a better random number generator feel free to suggest it. First you should go and find out how our numbers are produced though.

Stop complaining

A) there is nothing you can do about it
B) You are very annoying
C) it happens to everyone

Once in a game i had 78 armies on a territory, and my opponent conquered that territory with only 40 armies.
It happens

D) this is to you and everyone who think that the dice are rigged

IF YOU THINK THAT YOU COULD MAKE BETTER RANDOM DICE, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU TRY, OTHERWISE SHUT UP

LOL Wacicha!
Nice cover up there buddy ;)

True story, I was there, and watched someone get raped :)

Also, Just for the record, I'm not sure why you all are so upset, I have had a lot of bad experiences with the dice, but I don't remember them.
If you have bad luck in one game, eventually you're bound to have good luck in another!
Take the good with the bad.

Those dice are the same ones that will lead you on an unstoppable, destructive path at times too. There have been games where I was amazed at how few times I lost armies in a territory battle.

Just keep a set of real dice handy so you have something to throw when you get hosed.

I'm waiting for the day when random.org actually comes out and says that it's been lying this whole time and they have no actual random number generator.

This is in no way meant to be trolling, nor is it meant to be complaining, I honestly believe that there is a bug in the program

I am sure it is human nature to remember the times the dice work against you more than the times they work for you but I believe there is a real pattern here.

Someone mentioned that these dice can also lead you on an awesome path of destruction where you lose relatively few armies and that is true also. This however supports my original supposition that the dice seem to get STUCK in one mode or another

Perhaps the dice are truelly randome 90% of the time until they hit a hiccup and get stuck either good or bad and then produce some true statistical anamolies

as far as 78 being conquered by 40 in the first place the attacker has the advantage because he is able to roll 1 more die than the defender, secondly a 2 to 1 deviation isnt nearly the same as a 15 to 1 deviation in random number generation

Ive also noticed that if you are on a losing streak that if you change the country you are attacking and or attacking from then come back to it later it sometimes overcomes thee problem but so long as the attacking and defending country remain unchanged the problem seems to persist

try using the attack rather than auto attack button and seem if you notice an anomoly

That's just because you're not invited to higher ranking games. In the higher ranking games, they get the good dice and everything is equitable and fair. Nobody ever loses 12 v 1. Oh, I've tasted those dice and they were simply wonderful. If I could only get another taste... It's like crack.

Gee and I find you so pleasant.........nothing is as rewarding as someone who rather than engage in a intelligent conversation about the laws of probability; would rather emotionally overreacte and launch a personal attack to cover up the fact that they have nothing intelligent to say and no point to make.

Did it occur to you not to read or respond to the post ? or are you simply here to project your own tendency to be annoying onto others in a pathetic attempt to feel better about yourself ?

Roll a few dice.

If they're bad, log out, and log in again, and try it again.

Trust me, it works ;)

here is some general infor mation on the laws of probability .....

Now if you flip a coin you have a 50/50 chance that it will come up heads....everytime you flip the coin you have the same 50/50 chance that heads will come up regardless of what it was last flip because the coin constantly has two sides your odds are basically 2 to 1.

if you flip it 10 times and it comes up heads 10 times (barring any weight deviation that may make the coin prone to land on one side) you still have a 2 to 1 chance of coming up heads because there remains only 2 sides to the coin.

Now this seems contrary to common sense but its true...each flip your odds are 2 to 1, however if we are talking about a series of flips the math changes. For example to flip it twice and it come up heads twice in row the odds are 4 to 1 because there are 4 possible outcomes:

heads first heads second
tails first heads second
heads first tails second
tails first tails second

4 possible outcomes odds are 4 to 1 in other words odds are 2 to 1 each flip ...2 flips = 2x2 to 1 = 4 to1

now if we take the case of rolling 3 dice against 1 (not accounting for every side and only accounting for the possibility of winning or losing with each die) our odds are 3 to 1 that we will win on the first roll.

to lose 13 consequetive times rolling 3 dice against one the odds are :

3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3 to 1 or 1,594,323 against losing 13 men in a row when attacking 1 man rolling 3 dice against 1

I say when the odds are 1,594,323 to against something happening and it does thats a STATISICAL ANOMOLY that needs an explanation. especially if it happens on more than one occassion

Math doesnt lie, regardless of whether the dice work for or against you that just aint right lol

It's been awhile since I took a stats class, but judging from some rough estimates I do not think losing 3 vs 2 11 times in a row is unreasonable based upon the shear number of times you have rolled the dice in almost 100 games. With a conservative estimate of 20,000 rolls to this point I think if you do the math you will find that it is indeed very probable that you would encounter this scenario, perhaps even more than once every 100 games.

If you are really concerned that the dice are not working properly use the dice analyzer to check your results. To this point I have not seen anyone post results that are exceptionally out of whack.
