I was playing regular map against **** when he offers an alliance
2007-05-27 17:55:49 - ***: sargeant pepper
2007-05-27 17:55:58 - ***: ill make u a deal
2007-05-27 17:56:16 - ***: u give me europe
2007-05-27 17:56:33 - ***: i give u NA
This was in Round 2 or 3 I think, very early in the game. Nobody had really staked out any territories, but it was somewhat clear what each player was after. What do you take player's message to mean? I have made my own interpretations already, but I'm curious to know what the community perceives. I just want to know what the 'status-quo' is about alliances here on C.C. I would like to know how they work, and if they are usually trustworthy or not. What do alliances mean to you?

You are aloud to make alliances, they usually are trustworthy, but always have men on your borders. What he was asking was if you wanted an alliance, you don't attack him, he doesn't attack you. He also offered you north america in exchange for europe. It usually helps to make alliances, as it stops an opponent from attcking you. One less enemy to worry about. On the subject of being trustworthy, They usually are, But I have no problem with backstabbing, same goes for other people on this site.

Here is another Q:
Let's say player 2 has missed his turn, but is currently in possession of N.A. He would have gotten 5 (N.A.) + 4 (12 territories) = 9 armies. Since he missed his turn, he does not get them (this turn).
After my turn, it is his again. Now he now longer has complete control over N.A. Will he still get his previous Continent bonus of 5? If yes, will it be multiplied by 2 due to his loss of turn? Would he get 18 armies?

No - he won't get the continent bonus if you've broken it - he shouldn't've missed his previous turn.

Thank you - that helps clarify a few things.
The 'instructions' section does not talk enough about 'missing turns' and the rules surrounding it. I took a look in the FAQ, too, with limited results

If it helps - get the GreaseMonkey addition which we've lovingly called BOB...
This tells you exactly how much reinforcements you should expect the other players to have...

The opening post should not be interpreted as an alliance or peace treaty of any kind. *** is just clarifying his intentions to you so that you don't clash in a massive battle with most of your armies and both lose.

As it turned out, I agreed to the deal. *** Took control of Europe, and I had almost got complete control over N.A. The f**ker decided to take Africa, and attack C. America from Venezuela!! I understood he would "let me have N.A." according to his words. He later said he meant he would not attack NA from Europe, which he then proceeded to do anyways (IceLand > Greenland) whilst replying to my message regarding his breach of trust. A**hole.
