how do you form alliances

you request it in the game chat the other will say yes or no then you got to wait for the knife in the dark THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE

Or you can respectfully end your alliance, and go on to fight each other, bearing no hard feelings, as in the end "THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE".

Back stabbing is usually preferable, as it will give you an edge if you do it at the right moment.
