Would you consider a poly game 1 v 1?

This question is stemming from an issue that recently came up. In my mind a poly game is 1 v 1 but each player just controls multiple colors. The other party thinks that poly games are not 1 v 1. I'm interested to see what the majority of CC thinks on this issue.

Well yes and no, its something slightly different. Its a team game played by 1 person, essentially a 2v2 3v3 or 4v4 with one person making the calls. So its 1 person versus another 1 person.

by the logic that it's one player against another.

Definitely a 1v1. It is 1 person having to make all the decisions without input from anyone else.

How is it not a 1v1?

Definitely 1v1. Heck, it is even more balanced than the original 1v1. (Drop and First go)

*But I agree with the ruling of the original issue - for integrity reasons*

1 v 1 without much of the huge luck factor removed. Infinitely better than the standard option.

It s a team game where you take all the decisions. It s the gameplay of a team game. You don t have to strategize to take out a given player/colour or a bonus or a teamkill to sweap the board with a 1v1. Definitely closer to a team game than a 1v1.

Or your question the following:
Is the essence of team games the input of several players, or playing various slots as a team?

You say yourself a it's a "1v1" team game, so obviously Yes, mate.

Quote please?

And it s obviously a mix of both, everyone will agree here. I think that the OP s intention is to ask if we feel closer from playing 1v1 or team.

I would say if you don't think there is a close yes/no answer then just feel free not to vote.

To answer a previous question, to me a team game is getting input from your team members on the best decision to make during turns.

In my mind a 1 v 1 represents one person versus one person which can be done in poly or not poly games as long as there are only 2 players in a game.

If you are advising a SOC game, you are playing a team game?

you need to define 1x1

in CC language 1x1 to me means the standard version which is all luck

a poly game is completely different than a standard 1x1

its a 1x1 team game

So it's a 1 vs 1, it's just a 1 vs 1 team game. Seems like a reasonable definition?

Summary of current debate:

A poly game is a 4v4, 1v1 game.

"No, it's a 1v1, 4v4 game."

No, it's a 4v4, 1v1 game.

"No, it's a 1v1, 4v4 game."

[/summary]

Gentlemen, let's compromise with: "1v1 4v4 polysolo team game" or "14PTG" for short.

"No, it's a 1v1 4v4 solopoly team game."

"No, it's a..."

Yeah, there's no clear answer. The question really needs to be clarified with an extention of "for the purpose of...."

For the purpose of establishing an elimination bracket of some kind, it's definitely a 1v1.
For the purpose of scoring, it's definitely 1v1.
For the purpose of analyzing strategy, it's much like a team game.
For the purpose of estimating how long it will take to play, it's more like a quads game than a 1v1.
For other purposes it might be other things yet unseen.

So many factors! It's so difficult to describe this new type of play.... Perhaps, we should invent a word for it...
