Because if you could buy a year of premium, join 50 games, and then freeze your premium for a week or two while you play those games... then unfreeze... and repeat... you could get a majority of the premium benefits for years and years just by paying 1 year.

They could always make it to where you have to be in 0-4 awaiting/active games before you freeze.
