QUESTIONS

1.At the end of a game once the game is down to three people, the first player has as many armies as the other two put together, and manages to convince one of the other players that is in their best interest to fight the other guy instead of him. how do you overcome a second place player that consistently fights the weakest on the board instead of the strongest?----hwhrhett

2.In the escalator game; sometimes i find that seemingly ‘naïve’ players end up winning by attacking and playing in a style conventionally more suited to no cards.
I.e. attempting to gain bonuses and attacking strongholds in the immediate vicinity.----jiminski

3.How do you cope with the culture-shock of moving from playing with seasoned players to playing with comparative new-comers?----jiminski

4.Do you stick to the same pattern of play or do you change?----jiminski

5.Or given the right circumstance do you play this style too?----jiminski

6.In the classic stuggle of 2 people teaming up on you in a 3 player game, what is the best thing to do to A) make them stop teaming you, and B) eventually win the game when they are overpowering you?----wcaclimbing

7.There are three players left on classic standard game. I own South America and Africa. Player B owns North america and europe and has about 20-30 armies on each border. PLayer C owns austrailia and has 30 armies on siam. No one has Asia. It is my turn and I turn in a set for 40 armies. After turning in the set I have 1 card. Player C has 3 cards. Player B has none. Do I down player C and take his cards or do I weaken Player B by taking his bonus and hope to take them both down?----dominationnation

8.There are 3 players left in a classic game. I own Africa (but with only one army everywher) and Oceania (with 5 armies on Siam), Player B owns Europe and North America which are both forted with 4 or 5 territories on every border, and Player C owns South America and almost all of Asia with 1 army everywhere (only 2-3 territories left). Should I start building on Siam or try to defend Africa? Or any other suggestion?----GreecePwns

9.Your in a flat rate game and you have no conts. You have maybe 2 armies of more than 5 men and you are spread out. Everyone else has conts and big armies. your the only person on the board who hasnt established a base. How can you salvage anything from this game ?----Ham

10.However, I would like to support this question. I've got a 4-player (now 3-player cos 1 deadbeated) game on Classic. Myself and 1 other captain are the dominant forces in an escalating game. He holds Oceania and is trying to hold Africa, which I keep breaking. Me - I hold S. America. I don't like playing like this because his no cards/flat rate strategy will win him the game if he's not stopped. However, player #3 is too weak and is in the position I would like to be - fiddling around and controlling how and when he gets cards while we fight it out. I don't like it - I'm not used to playing this way on escalating!----RobinJ

11.What is your general strategy in flat rate games once it gets down to three players? It seems like games always bog down at that point.----shark0613

12.What is a foolproof method for winning a terminator game (flat rate/chained forts) with over 100 players? Lie in wait? Go for broke? Or some other middle of the road strategy which combines the two?----Jolly Roger

13.Is there a certain "criteria" that a player should try to match before risking himself by making a bold move against another player? I ask only because I've tried many different things and none of them ever seem to be any better than each other.----Optimus Prime

14.How can me and my partner get into more competitive games? We're pretty sick of playing 1 and 2 stripes where we stand more to lose then win in the game. Any ideas how?----Buddy Jesus

If the attacker has an advantage over the defender (assuming more attacking dice) then why do some games run hundreds of rounds with thousands of armies on the board?

damit

my question was going to be:

please list the top 5 players in random order and you may include the 5 listed above.

how about:

please list the top 5 players in singles competition that has atleast 100 post, 50 wins on Sundays, part of SE, 100 positive feedbacks, with no battle Royale stats included.

Why don’t you use the opportunity to ask a question JR?

We should all keep trying to learn.

How much wood can a woodchuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood?

On a more serious note...

spin- While I think you have a good idea here, I think your system is a bit flawed. Asking people to suggest questions and then vote for the most popular questions for us to answer just seems strange and inefficient. But anyway, I'll let it go under the current system and see how it works out.

poo: I can't speak for the others but spin asked me if I would be willing to answer questions for this project, and I said yes. I would imagine the same is true for the other 4. But of course there are many people who would be able to answer these questions just as well if not better than us.

I don't see why you wouldn't take out Player C for his cards. If you eliminate him, you're guaranteed another turn-in on your next turn. Even with his bonuses Player B having zero cards is a big disadvantage for him. You could potentially turn-in twice before he even gets 3 cards.

What i usually do is just to be more cautious around new players.
Some new players dont understand the basic rules of the game, and sometimes the least likely move that an experienced player would make is the exact move that the new guy right next to you will pull against you next turn.

So you should either:
A) Build strong defence to protect against the new guys stupid attacks.
B) Talk him through basic strategy and get him pointed towards what a good strategy would be.
C) Completely obliterate him so you dont have to worry about him any more.

But hey, im not on the list of people, so if you dont like my answer, dont be mad at me for it.

Cheers Wc but it's not quite what i mean; in many escalators with experienced players, you enter into a ritualised dance for the first part of the game. Everyone postures’ and seeks strategic positions; making it awkward to be killed and yet at the same time placed to take advantage of mistakes or bad luck.

Players who are good but perhaps not specialised in the escalator game often play it differently and do not adhere to the 'choreography'. In some cases it works very successfully.
My question is, i suppose, how do you guard against this and do you employ a similar but fluid tactic in some cases?
