2 electric green, 1 auburn and 2 drab. Eventually I get to spend them to win some other tokens which I can spend to join a tournament to win some shiny gold ones and maybe a medal.
Big fucking whoop!
You get electric green for winning games in tournaments.

I think i got a purple one for logging on this morning. I saw a teammate in quads game get one when the game started...so joining a game (not sure on color...Edit....hahahaha. i just saw you got one as well Caffeine in the same game. a "drab" one. Game 13856670)
what's next CC? will we start getting medals for lost games?
I can see the medal hunters now...."I have to foe you as you have all ready beaten me and i am really working towards my gold medal for unique losses"
my reaction this morning when i saw my purple star....

I just got an electric green after winning a board for the third time in a row (the only 3 times I've played it). No sure exactly why I got it, but I've never played a tournament, so that has nothing to do with it. When I looked at the medal list I seen nothing. Anyone know of additional definitions for this one?

Yeah so i think the auburn is for logging in. I got a violet by passing a round in a tourney. I still have no idea how i got the silver in the first place..
Maximus, you got the cyan by winning a small auto tournament?

I was covering a mate and he got a violet for logging in. I think the common ones are for anything general.
I am 99% sure that the colors awarded have nothing to do with any activities, I am thinking they are RANDOM

Yes, but it seems to be very random.
I have:
3 Electric Green for winning games, two of which were tournament games, one was normal
2 Auburn from the gods
2 Drab from the gods
Which totally contradict yours.

They gave it to the wrong person then. You should have gotten 2. I would file a report in the bugs.

Oh, god.
Here come the "random star distribution isn't really random" threads....

it actually looks like you get one of these things 80% of the time when you win and 50% of the time when you join... at least that is the ratio i perceive. already got 10 of these crap in 6 different colours... so basically, 7 are crap and 5 are almost impossible to get?
I'm not sure i get the point... incentivate to play a lot to access the best tourneys?

I now have 2 Violet, 2 Electric Green, 2 Drab and 2 Auburn. I stopped caring why. I'll get them when I get them and spend them on tournaments when I feel like it.

It's a way to connect different activities. Sure, right now there's really nothing to spend them on except the autotourneys, but over time there will be other things. They had to start somewhere.
One step at a time...

I wonder if these become available to purchase and they become another revenue stream for cc. e.g. We trade them in for tourneys with prizes and maybe premium membership.
As long as they don't follow the bitcoin example!

i ran out of turns to play and really want some more of these "special stars". so i logged off, and then on, and then again, and again, and again, and again....well you get the point. i now have 10 more stars.
i hope they change the rule on transferring them as i have been trying to figure out how to play this game for my job since i joined. I tried the sponsor route but Hasbro has yet to acknowledge my letters, phone calls, emails, and carrier pigeons. I could see setting up an online marketplace as these are going to be in demand!

I haven't kept too up on this, but Valve has an inventory for its Steam game platform.
You earn cards, which can be traded and sold, and eventually leveled up into Badges, which then can become something else?
Anyways, they don't in themselves do anything, but they exist as a secondary currency. People trade them and some item sell for $250 on a marketplace, unfortunately all that money is in your "steam wallet" which you can only use to buy more games with.
The Vale model is generally that the longer you play a game, the more likely you are to earn items and the more rare (and thus valuable) they will be. It is basically a loyalty program, but with an element of chance. In Valve's example, the sometimes give them for unique events, for example recently if you watched a world championship round while using Valve's client to do so, you had a chance of earning an incredibly rare item.
This seems to be handled, so far, similarly. The fact that it is called Inventory, which is straight up the name of the Steam items, is telling. Valve is famous as being a gaming company with an economist on staff, and has been experimenting with a lot of different hooks to keep people playing. The items are sort of like a slot machine. Psychology has long established that the random, intermittent reward pattern is the most addicting. Think slot machines. You pull the lever, and your win is 'random' and intermittent (based on time or number of tries, not skill or input). This looks like a pretty similar system, at least for the common ones. You keep playing games (on the help page it says the more opponents, the better) and you keep randomly winning awards. If they truly are able to be exchanged for tourney entries or rewards, perhaps they can have a value equivalent.
Either way though, it is pretty clear that this is a way of building loyalty and use of this website. Although I would love to see some more creativity, I am glad that at least Wham et al is copying from the best. Valve is currently a rare example of a company that has draconian restrictive policies and still has fervent customer loyalty and gratitude.

Seems interesting to me, in the sense that they can be used to keep interest in the site.
Of course, if they are distributed randomly, then that won't help.
Example: You need 10 auburn stars to join a tournament, but there is no set way to get auburn stars, they just randomly appear.
If they make it so stars are achieved certain ways, then I think they could be a dynamic addition to the site.

Well, it's random, but not random in the sense of being spewed around like neutrinos from the sun.
It's targetted randomness, with rules, some of which will be known and some of which will be unknown. For instance, BigWham has already said that public games are much more likely to give stars than tournament or clan games, and I suppose this is an incentive to get some people out into the public arenas. Further, I don't know but I much suspect, that certain game setting will probably influence what kind of stars a game gives. So, escalating games might be more likely to give cyan stars while games on Beta maps might be more likely to give orange stars. Or whatever. I have no idea how complicated this will get, but I suspect it will be very complicated, and trying to play detective and figure out how to get the rare star you're looking for will be half the fun.
Then, of course, they will eventually be made tradeable, I suspect, and there will be a star market, and that will be a whole new ball of wax.

Hum.. But i m still not sure about those stars.. As it s definitely not as cool to collect as medals, so it s more of a tool... For now to join auto tourneys. I m personally not a fan of auto tourneys, i prefer community based tournaments that have more interesting structures.. And those don t require any star!
Ok it seems like you get a star daily for logging in? Got one yesterday morning and one this morning.
