There is also the option of attacking with 4 once and 9 once. Which in hindsight is the option maybe i should have went with. Stack was 6 which would probably turn into 9 for the second attack.

only if you don't lose both dice in the first 2 rolls

i am one of double-stacking's biggest fans, so i appreciate this chance to remind me of how to analyze why it is important
the basic concept is that a stack of 3 is a non-attacker. if you attack the stack down to 2, you get an extra attacker; each attacking stack gets an extra chance at this extra troop
actually those numbers only matter if you take the p dw2 v q a1d1 or p=(.4656) q=[.5344] {Phatscotty is wrong in his analysis, as if i win the first 2, it tells me nothing about whether or not i will get the "2" bonus} to put this into effect: 6,6 gets the extra attacker chance if both attacks are fails, but also if the first two are splits and the third is a fail; it does not get the extra attack if the first is a fail, and the second a split [or vice versa], or the first 3 are splits p[ex]=.2168 + .1330 = .3498 p[-ex]=.4976 + .1526 = .6502
so, 35% you get an extra troop, 65% you don't. note that because you gave up an attacker to get to this method, you only have a 35% chance of getting that attacker back
4,9 quite simple has a 47% chance at extra troop
5, 8 only has a 28% chance of the extra attacker
-------------------------------------------------
Right now, these are 2 complete theories of different aspects. to complete this project i would integrate the two options together. the chance that you get to 2 is also based on the number of defenders, and is the main reason for the law of alternating returns. that sounds like a thesis to me.

i've been thinking: how the f*ck do you go from 6 twice to 10 once? where does the extra troop go?
