Cashing in cards mid-round.

OK, I checked this out in the FAQ, and found the appropriate response, but the game did not behave the way the FAQ said it would...

I eliminated a player from the game and ended up with 6 cards, and at least one full set available for cash-in. After eliminating the player, the round continued as normal, but I was never asked if I wanted to cash a set in.

How did this happen? I was REALLY banking on that set of cards for my position...Is there something I have to do, or does the game automatically ask if you want to cash in cards?

Thanks.

If at any time during your turn you are in possession of 5 or more cards you will be given the opportunity to cash in a set of cards. (Note that the card you get for conquering a country during your turn does not trigger a cash in opportunity because it occurs at the end of your turn.)

If this did not happen for you, please provide the game number. If verified you should submit a bug report.

Please check it out...

Game number 416430.

And a correction: only 5 cards, but at least one full set to cash in.

you only have 5 cards HAVING FINISHED your turn. therefore you did not have 5 DURING your turn so im afriad you could therefore not cash a set. you need a minimum of 5 cards to cash a set mid-go

The problem here is that Mid Round you only actually had 4 cards... thus not triggering the "cash cards now" code...

You may well have had a set but unless you have 5 or more then you cannot cash... (There was some discussion about this a while ago)

Your fifth card was awarded at the end of your turn.

Ohhhhhh.

I figured if I had enough cards to cash, I would be asked. So if I get 4 cards, and it results in a cashable set, I will not be asked if I want to cash? I figured that as soon as having enough cards to cash, you would be asked.

Wow, that screws my game up.

Thanks for clarifying.

You got it...

It's a little quirk you have to be careful of... next turn you'll be able to cash in though... just pray you're still alive!!

Doubtful...I figured that was my last shot before everyone else cashed and killed.

We'll see....

Thanks again!!!

You still have a shot in that game, neither yellow nor teal can take you out. Just some advice in the future - you have wasted a lot of armies defending continents, for example in yukon/pac alaska you can only attack to 1 territory and in florida you cant attack to any. When cash ins are at 35+, a 3 army bonus is more or less meaningless. Try to keep your armies where they can attack your opponents and you will win a lot more games in the future.

Just a friendly tip :)

I've been running into the problem of having 3 cards at the start of a turn, and not being given the chance to cash them in- twice now. Game # 431678

Were those 3 cards a set?

i have one question about cashing in mid round and i don't want to start a new thread.

let's say you have 3 blues and one red you take out another player and get 2 reds and 3 greens. you now have 9 cards. normally you have to change now. you have 3 mixed sets. let's say you select all the cards to exchange. what do you get 3 mixed sets or 1 blue one green and one red? or probably it tells you you can only exchange 3 cards?

You can only exchange 3 cards at a time. They game will keep prompting you to turn in another set until you don't have any more sets, or choose to turn them in later.

That would be the critical question. The game doesn't ask you if you want to cash a set if it knows you can't cash a set. It's not that cruel. If it didn't ask if you wanted to cash in a set, it means you couldn't cash in a set.

If you have 5 (or more) cards at any point except at the end of your turn it will always ask you to turn in a least one set. Under normal circumstances you cannot carry over more than 5 cards from one turn to the next (the exception being if you use up all the time allotted to your turn before you complete your card cash).

ok i can only exchange 3 cards.
let's go back to the situation described above.

i have 3 mixed sets. trade the first and go down to 6 cards. at this point i'm forced to trade again.
i select the next set. now. i'm down to only a mixed set. will i be prompted to exchange it?

What ClessAlvein said is correct and I think it answers your question.

Maybe I can say it a different way:

At the beginning of your turn you will be given the opportunity to cash in a set of cards if and only if you have a set of cards to cash in. You must cash cards until you have less than 5 cards left. You may continue to cash card sets as long as you have them or until you decide to cash the set in later (by clicking the Later button).

During the rest of your turn (that is during the Attack phase) if you eliminate another player you will receive his cards. If the number of cards you have in total (cards you held before plus the cards received from eliminating another player) is 5 or greater then the card cash dialog is triggered. You must cash cards until you have less than 5 cards left. You may continue to cash card sets as long as you have them or until you decide to cash the set in later (by clicking the Later button).

thanks for the explanation. usually i'm having bad luck at cards and never had more sets at once. or at least i don't remember :)

oh and congrats on the game you just won. i had plans to take south america from you and i came with 16 troops in central america and attacked your 4 troops in venezuela. since bad luck is not only on the cards but also onthe dice i lost everything without taking venezuela. :(

Yep, tahitiwahini is exactly right.

Buuuuut... to simplify his answer a bit, it's yes. :P

If I simplified my answers that much then I wouldn't get to use all the keys on the keyboard. :)

Thanks DiM for the congratulations. I wish winning a single game wasn't such a rate occurrence for me, but lately I have to take anything I can get. I put my fiercest warriors in Venezuela so I'm glad to hear they acquitted themselves well. But in the end I'll have to agree with Lefty:
