depends on the game type and sitution and # of cards

If it is no cards then it would be continent

If it was escalating/ flat rate and i would have 4+ cards after eliminating a player, then i would eliminate them

Kind of hard to quantify.

Here are some things to consider:

1. A continent bonus is forever, at least as long as you can hold it. Cards are here today and gone tomorrow, don't weaken yourself in the pursuit of cards to the point that you need to cash just to survive.

2. Why not do both? If you're lucky eliminate someone who controls a continent. Eliminate someone and then use his cards to conquer a continent.

3. Who is easiest to eliminate? Who has the fewest armies? Who is geographically concentrated enough to allow one massive army group to eliminate? Who is in the weakest defensive posture, that is, one army on each territory? Who is likely to be someone else's target for elimination?

4. Who is the ripest target, that is, who has the most cards? How many cards to you have? Are you guaranteed an opportunity to cash in this turn (combination of your cards and your eliminated opponent's cards must be 5 or greater)? Can you cascade eliminations? That is, eliminate one player, cash in cards, and then eliminate another player.

5. Will conquering another continent make you too big a threat and therefore a target yourself? Will eliminating a player leave you with less than 5 cards and make you an inviting target for elimination?

Without considering these questions and more it's not really possible to answer the question conclusively. It very much depends on a host of circumstances.

If it's terminator, definetly take out the player. :P

Yeah, it depends on the game rules. Unfortunately, I am more apt to eliminate the player, but I am slowly learning to be a little more conservative in the beginning of the game. However, I am the last person here that anyone would want to listen to having only won two games out of 13... :(

What a stupid freaking question.

I've got one for you. When you come to a intersection, is it better to turn left or turn right?

Right. It is definetly alot safer to turn right.

I thought everybody knew that.

haha, that's if you live in the US. What if you were in Japan or something?

It depends on what the rules are. If you were in terminator, then you might do something different.

I think that more or less this question was of the rhetorical nature. Obviously, you were unable to see it that way.

I think an effective strategy would be to not post opened-ended and incomplete questions with a poll that consists of two answers.[/i]

its better to take out the player on tuesdays and thursdays, and to take the bonus on monday, wednesday and fridays. Weekends you just take a card and then go outside.

Oh did I, genius? Actually, it was a stupid question. Because she has boundless patience, Tahitiwahini took the effort to explain all the angles that the OP didn't bother to mention. I'm obviously not as nice a person. Once you've been here a little while, you'll see a number of strategy questions that illustrate one thing: people love to get hung up on dogmatic boiler plate tactics and fail to take a very important thing into consideration. Each freaking situation is unique! Should I take this guy out? Well, how many armies does he have? how many cards does he have? Do you get to turn in right away if you take him? Is it likely gonna cost you 20 armies to only get 3 cards in a flat rate game?

Should I take this continent? How many armies is it gonna cost? Can you hold it? Will you bring undo attention to yourself? What's it worth?

Would you prefer that I just randomly pick an answer?

So. Maybe after the 50th time some momo asks a stupid question that can't be answered without summing up "Risk For Dummies", you'll understand why pricks like me flame these questions.[/i]

My aren't we clever. Now if you could only apply some of that to your game, you'd be on the right side of 1000.

bit insulting. he was on ur side and as far as i can see was complimenting u!
don't take the mick out of some1's score if they've only played 14 games.
jaybebo obviously hasn't been here long and he's done nothing to deserve that remark

Let's see, when I called the question stupid, he implied that I was unable to see it for the rhetorical question that it was. When I explained, no it was actually a stupid question and showed why, he rather un-deftly "agreed" with the fact that I referred to myself as a prick. Doesn't appear to me that he was "complimenting" me. Then again maybe I'm just a mean person. (Jaybebo, this is where you highlight that last part and "applaud" my insight)

Like others have said, depends on the situation. If playing a triples game it's usually a good idea to eliminate someone early on then worry about a continent.

Isn't that right, Absolute_master?
