To qualify, a player's joindate must Oct 1, 2011, or later.

I second The_Bishop. But I contest your use of the word "noob." That generally implies some amount of stupidity or incompetence. I recommend you change it to "Newb of the Year Award."

Sure. I've always used them interchangeably, but if there is a distinction, I don't want to use the offensive one.

I don't know if anyone can contest the man who discovered the classic map mistake from obtaining the newbie of the year award.

i prefer the word nub as it infers they are not only incompetent but also not well endowed

how is that question noobish? I never noticed before that asian eastern connections were so different to the actual board game... haven't played the real risk game for years. kudos to that guy.

Newb in this context refers to "new player".

Am I the only one that realizes that newb isn't an insult if it's true? Calling someone who started playing yesterday a noob is not an insult. Conversely, if someone is a newb in the insult sense, then they are by definition not actually a newb, and don't qualify for nominations here.

so is it about witty comments by newcommers? by the way doom, did you notice before this thing about asia? have you had a look at the actual risk map? pretty crazy to see how we're formatted to the cc classic map now..

Nobody noticed it. It can be about anything. As long as a player is a) new, which I take to mean joined since Oct 2011 and either b) contributed to the site in a meaningful way or c) is an amazing player.

We are not making fun of the bishop. We are saying he is a great player.

I've played a few online games in my day and noob is not a nice word, even if you've just started. It's generally considered a slur.
