Could Someone Please Clarify

I have been playing for roughly 5 weeks now, and my wife would like to play in some doubles games with me. I have been trying to make sure we understand the concrete rule about two people playing from the same computer. My username is Optimus Prime and hers in Luxurious. After she reaches Private she wants to play doubles mostly with me, but we want to make sure we don't break any rules and get in trouble.

I have looked in the FAQ for some insight into this and here is what I found:

The short answer is yes. Our Multi Hunters are pretty good at distinguishing roomates & family members from people with multiple accounts. However, it is generally a good idea to play in doubles/triples games with people from the same computer. This will help avoid accusations of cheating.

I just wanted to make sure this is accurate because I'm worried it might actually be a typo and is supposed to be reading "However, it is generally not a good idea to play in doubles/triples games with people from the same computer."

If a mod, or someone who knows for sure could help clarify for me I would greatly appreciate it. We both love the site, but don't want to do anything dumb unintentionally. Thanks for the help. I realize this might be a really dumb question.

I think you are interpreting the FAQ correctly. The idea being that people who play from the same IP can be assumed to be friends or relatives and therefore to be biased in favor of their friend or relative. If they exclusively play as partners there's really no conflict of interest since partners are expected to be biased in favor of their partner. If they were to play in the same non-partner game then there is a presumption that they would be biased toward the other person they are sharing an IP address with. Even so, I believe this presumption can be overcome by announcing in game chat that while you indeed do share the same IP address you both intend to show no favoritism toward each other. Another possibility is to set up private games and so make sure that all the participants understand that you two will be sharing the same IP address but are not allied in any way. If the opponents agree to those terms you can give them the password to the game.

I've also heard it said that one should proactively let the mods (or lackattack) know by PM that you two will be playing from the same IP address but you don't intend to play together in the same non-partner games (if that's the case). This will make it easier to deal with in the event that a multi-hunter is called on to investigate an allegation of your being a multi.

Hope this helps. I don't play doubles much so if I misstated the policy in any way please correct me.

That is not a typo Optimus Prime. If you play from the same computer it will remove accusations of a secret alliance if you play in doubles together.

Don't worry about it you should be fine.

just a suggestion but you may want to remember this thread name so you can find it for reference later. you have declared the player names etc and so if you ever get accused of being a multi then u can refer them to this post that will clear everything up

Sounds good to me, moz976. I appreciate the feedback.
