tournament invites, am i in the wrong?

Playing a 1 v 1 fog tournament (knockout on world 2.1) right now.

won my game and my next opponent is still being decided. The tournament administrator sent me an invite to my next game with no opponent (since it has not been determined). I asked him to re set up the game when i have an opponent and we are both invited at the same time and the administrator sent me a email showing he was not pleased with me for not wanting to join yet.

I tried to explain I am at an extreme disadvantage if i join now and then my opponent joins next setting off the game and then gets to go first. if he goes before me and goes right away, he will deploy 12 and could clear me out of an area, take bonuses, and i would have no idea what he did because i never saw the initial start.

However, if we are both invited at the same time, i know when the invite expires and i have a better chance to see the initial map because i can wait until the last minute to join and then watch for the opponent to join if i have to.

Am i wrong to think this is not the proper way to run a tournament (inviting both players at the same time so no one has an advantage)?

The only other solution i see is the unwritten 12 hour fog rule which can not be enforced. In my first round, i joined first and did not get to see the board as my opponent went before me. in round 2 and 3, i waited for the other player to join...in round 2 i went right away as i was pissed because the guy did it to me in round 1. in round 3, my opponent got to go first, but i got my screen shot so i was not in the dark...which made all the difference.

i would really like to win a tournament and am just asking my administrator to not give my opponent a huge advantage over me. Maybe i am to obsessed but i hate to lose, I handle it better if I am outplayed though.

Thoughts?

So you don't want your opponent to do that thing that you want to do, which is accept second. The tournaments I have done I've always sent both invites out at the same time, what a logistical nightmare to make it patchwork...

i just want them sent at the same time. administrator messaged me back and it sounds like he will resend when i have an opponent.

I try to join second (to make sure i get to see the board) but if i have 24 hours to join and no opponent that has to join, then i have no idea when he will join, he has a huge advantage.

If you are playing me and want me to join first, you had better join with 1 minute left on the invite, or let me know that you will give me a chance to get a screen shot.

usually give a guy a chance to get a screen shot, but if i don't get one, the vengeful part of me may screw the next guy over.

Chris,
I don't think it's unrealistic to ask for both invites to be set out approx the same time. Depending on how experienced your TO is or how he organizes it maybe an incontinent fact for him which maybe why he's unhappy. But if your asking whether or not your request is fair, as both a player and a TO I would say yes.

I would want to do the same thing as you Chris. I don't think it is unreasonable. If the TO didn't make a fog rule both players should have the same span of time to join the game. (assuming the game has to be joined within x amount of hours)

I think that it is only fair that the invites are sent out at the same time... especially if there is an absence of a "fog rule" but I'd say considering everything you let your emotions get the better of you for Round 2. You may want to better control that "vengeful part of you"

These sound like horrible settings for a tournament and I hate the fog "rule". But that being said, there's nothing wrong with asking for what you want.
