Best cash in?

OK here's a question for you... (Tahiti?)

I'm playing an escalating game...

I have 5 cards and I must cash...

My cards are 1 red 1 blue and 3 greens...

Which set should I cash in (Mixed or Greens) so that I am more likely to get another set quicker?

Cheers,

C.

I don't think it makes a difference.

Since it is 100% random which color is which if you cash in greens you have a 1/3 shot of getting another green to have a mixed set.

If you cash in mixed you have a 1/3 shot of getting another green to have a green set.

But what about the 4th card after that?

There's absolutely no difference as far as I'm aware. Although in the real world it would depend on what other colours have already come out because that would mean there was less of a chance of that colour being picked up again.

What is the value of your cards in escalating as you trade them in.I am going to have to trade first , being the first player to 5 cards.

your odds of having a mixed set are 100% now....take it....it is possible you dont get another, so if you cash your greens and then get more greens or reds...you cash 2 sets worth 10... or 12 as opposed to the 10 you have now...whatever the odds against it...you cant take the chance

Escalating game, remember, not flat rate. Mixed sets and one-colours are worth the same.

There is statistically no difference what-so-ever.

Say you cash in greens:
You'll have a 1 in 3 chance of drawing another green to make a mixed set the next turn.
If you drawn either blue or red, you'll have a 2 in 3 chance on your next turn of either drawing a green to make a mixed set or another of the same card you pulled on your last turn to make a one-color set.

Say you cash in mixed:
You'll have a 1 in 3 chance of drawing another green to make a green set.
If you draw either blue or red, you'll have a 2 in 3 chance of either drawing a green to make a green set or whatever you didn't draw for your 3rd card to make a mixed set.

Everyone who responded saying it makes no difference in this case is correct. detlef gets the prize for providing the best explanation.

chewyman would be correct when playing the tabletop game, but here the cards are not drawn from a virtual deck. The probability of getting a red, green, or blue card here is always the same. In the tabletop game, once all the red cards had been given out, the probability of getting another red card would be nil. Perhaps, someone else has had the experience here of turning in a set, say Kamchatka, Alberta, and Congo, and then at the end of your turn getting a card for Congo. The guarantees in the CC game are that you will always have an equal chance of getting a red, green, or blue card and that no two cards currently held by any player will be for the same country.

BTW, coleman gave the correct redemption value order for escalating games.

Thanks for the interesting question.

Hi Tahiti,

Thanks for the response...

However I must point out a slight error in your argument...

Two cards CAN be given out the same on this site... this point was posed and answered in the "it's a small world" map thread... this problem previously caused a crash in the battle royale games when the deck had been exhausted (the only games where this can happen as no other map has less than 30 territories.)

But this can only occur once the deck has actually been exhausted - thus only in Battle Royales at the mo... and potentially in the small world map if it gets added.

C.

PS I have experienced the cash in and receive the same territory thing before - with different colours too!!

Good to know, thanks. I'll bet there are other anomalies with battles royale.
