If it isn't a dead beater unranked who leaves a 9 in your territory that walls you off from the guy holding 3 bonuses its some cook/private who suicides vs you and hands the victory to the other player.

I've been playing cc for years off and on so its possible such a feature has evaded my sight very easily.

But honestly - I'm sick of this. I have no problem losing when its by my own merit or by dice or even by diplomacy gone wrong.
But to lose because of something completely out of my control (aka opponents skill level or interest in playing this game seriously) it drives me up a wall.
Any way to limit people who join my games? I try to monitor games i start and jump out as soon as a low level player hops in but most of the time I'm too late or they join last and then it all goes down hill.

now I have no problem with a vast majority of low ranked players. Most of them understand the concepts of the two weakest vs the strongest in a 3 person ffa etc etc. But its the 10% that DON'T that ruin games for me. With all due respect as a general statement most of them are that rank for a reason. (many great players just don't have enough games under their belt but a great portion of them just aren't as good at this game.)

Long drawn out rant aside - Is there any way to limit the rank of players who can join my games aside from hosting private matches and personally inviting players?
I was banned from playing with my only 'real' friend on here 4 some years ago. Haven't really had anyone to associate with since so inviting and having people to play against that I know is kind of a no-go

Also - I'm sure there is a topic on this somewhere already but I tried using the search feature and I came up with nothing.

problem is that many really skilled players have shit ranks because they play tons of silly speeders on doodle earth for example. so when they drop rank they couldn t play players that are not as good but that are higher ranked at that momentum..

go through callouts dude! probably your best option.

why don't you create some games and invite players who are your rank. the scoreboard has a lot of them.

if you enjoy the game, invite them for another. after a while friendships will develop.

This won't fix all your problems, but you could stick to games that new recruits can't join, like 6+ player games.

Also, if you frequent the callouts forum, you'll find plenty of likeminded fellows creating games for people of equal rank. Since you're currently a major, you can play in games made here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62216. Simply ask for someone to pm you the standard password, and then join on. If you don't see any games you like, create some and let everyone know of the numbers in this thread.

That kind of block would ruin the whole concept of "PUBLIC" game.
I understand your frustration, as i lost many games (also won many becasuse of that).
My opinion is that people with less experience SHOULD learn from more talented players.But they make mistakes too...or just lacks the vision to understand whats going on on the board...so i have a few advices(most of them were written allready by other people)

-Because you are an experienced player, u know allready some " noob" behaviours , so avoid being in their way to get "that bonus", they will eventually destroy themselves but not on you.
-Use diplomacy or talk like a good brother, making them understand whats happening..raging will just angry them and go after you.
-The one thet bugs me the most is people with no interest in the game..there you have no option but foe them..and hope that they will suicide in someone else
-Back to the 2nd point...offer them some cake or a hug...even if u want to brake the monitor in front of you

I think the ability to create games with a ceiling or basement would be ideal. For example a 500 point differential where a major (2000) points could create a game that would allow anyone from 1500 points to 2500 points could join. This would allow players to play against players that were within their skill level according to rank and also prevent higher ranks joining with a low rank to get more points. Why would a cook at 800 points want to play a colonel at 2600 or vice versa? This would allow a cook at 900 points the ability to play and learn against someone of 1400.

I agree with this. And over time, it would actually make the ranking system more accurate, IMO

I will continue to support the idea of allowing players to restrict ranks from joining games that they make, whether here or in suggestions. The argument that this will defeat the "public" nature of the games fails to convince me otherwise. I'm fairly certain that most players will still find games that they are interested in joining. And if not, you can always create your own.
