Deadbeater's troops - who do they go to?

OK, question re team games where one player deadbeats and is kicked from the game.

Game 10617502 - green deadbeated and all his troops went to me (red). I thought perhaps this was how the system worked, i.e. troops go to the last team player in line, which seems pretty fair as it gives the oppo time to adjust. However.....

Game 10654530 - slate has deadbeated and all his troops have gone to pink, who is the very next person on that team to play.

So what exactly is the procedure? It looks from the games above as if the troops go to the first name on each team list, i.e. red for Team 1 and pink for Team 2 (in a quads game). Is this correct, or is it simply random?

Thanks

(I did look for this question, but found nothing after scrolling back to threads made in 2011, so apologies if it's been duplicated)

I've seen some question like this before, but I'm not sure where.

When a player deadbeats, the first listed player on their team (still alive - ie surviving), inherits troops and spoils.

So in a quads game, red or pink will inherit if someone deadbeats (if they aren't dead).

Thanks buddy, appreciated. That was the only conclusion I could come to as well.

When a player is auto-kicked in a team game, the first surviving teammate inherits the troops and spoils.

taken right from the instructions, so that means that (EDIT: LIKE FORZA SAID) the first surviving teammate (meaning the first in the list, not the next active player) inherits the troops and spoils.

I've read this topic and also this one and posted here since the topic title makes more sense.

So having read all that, I understand where ones troops and spoils go, I just don't understand why - what's the logic behind your teammate inheriting your troops and your spoils? Why should the other team be penalized if your teammate bails?

the logic is to make things fair.
if you have an idea on how to improve this rule and make things better feel free to use the suggestions forum

It was an honest question, I didn't expect the purpose was to make it unfair.

I'll be happy to go and submit a suggestion if I still feel that it isn't a good rule, but it seems like it would be prudent to understand the argument(s) in favor of a rule before suggesting it be changed.

knowman,
it was done so if something in RL happens, it would not be an automatic disaster for the entire team. obviously missing a turn is bad, on multiple levels.
bad for the team is only one part of it.
if you miss a player and his troops and territs, then there is no sense in playing on. with the inheritence, you are still likely to lose, but less soo. Also this igves an incentive for the other team to hunt down the deadbeat in order to minimize the inheritance...
