Not sure if this is the right place to ask this. I have been trying to break this barrier for awhile now but it seems fairly hard (haven't really moved in rankings in the last 30 games). What are some good suggestions as a freemium (I have a 4 game limit)?

I'll let other comment on the strategy of getting to Field Marshal point wise, since obviously I am no guru when it comes to that. But you are around 170 some games away from reaching the 'Game' criteria for becoming a Field Marshal. Looking at your recent game history, you've started to use Round Limits, which is probably good, especially since you are a Freemium and you don't want long drawn out games if you want to get those 170 some games sooner rather than later. But Premium would really help you speed up your progress most likely.

Is it possible to attain a rank higher than fieldmarshal, assuming there is someone still higher than you?

No.. Field marshal is top of the list..

create a second account and than create and join 1 vs 1 games with those 2 accounts.

play 3rd crusade with one more high rated player is the safest start.
Upgrade your tools that you have for control your freestyle games during the day (and night for better results)

You do not need being in front of the games. You should only be at a house or room with available Internet connection. You can even sleep sometimes

I'm not sure about that, but I CAN tell you: as Conqueror/Field Marshal, it's hard to win a fight with "Crying gf" -- that's fo sho
