2 lost turns...

Three player endgame. Things are calm, big stacks watching each other on boarders, no spoils or flat rate.
A player loses 2 turns in a row. If he loses a third one, then the one who attacks first will win. If an early attack occurs, the third player may come back and win.
What do you do, assuming that the player's history does not give anything special or it is a speed game?

I would gamble that the person isn't coming back... Either way it's a gamble, but if you can get any information, like look at other games they have ongoing or see when they were online last, it would help you make your decision.

in the situation that there is no other info availiable (which almost always there is, and quickly too, if only you know how to look for it)
normally i would chose the attack over the defend.. however i would set up the defense so the endrun has to be desicive. then i would make my call.
i know i would feel very screwed if the 3th player would come back... heated feelings.

the options being, i attack or not, introduces the actions of the 2nd party AND the 3th party. if i do not attack, but the 2nd does, then he wins... if they second attacks, but the 3 gets active, then the 3th wins. nobody attacking would favor the first player after the 3th. therefor i ammend the original proposal to specify and state that you are just before the missing 3 turns in a row player.

i'd feel worse if i did nothing out of fear and thus lost the game. i prefer to keep it to my own calls failing, thus in this case i'd attack.

Which means that you imply that this is a good strategy, in a speed game for example? Log off, come back and win the otherwise stalemate game.

Very rarely have I seen a player come back to a game after missing two turns. Therefore, after two missed turns I assume they aren't coming back and play accordingly. As Seb said, I'd rather lose by my own actions than out of indecision or fear.

In a game with no spoils and all three colors have big stacks, I would bet my bottom dollar that the one who missed two turns is coming back. He's just watching what you guys are doing in his absence and waiting for the right time to move in and which target will it be. Remember that he will have 6 troops to add to any of his stacks at the end of the turn and that just may tip the game over to his favor. That's almost like a spoils right there.

While the other two are distributing troops evenly and strategically, He probably has a big push in mind utilizing those 6 deferred troops to his advantage.
