i made a thread about human rights (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=165066), to discuss the things we consider to be our 'right' and why we feel this way

woodruff entered this thread only to say things like 'when i call you an animal it is insulting to the animals'. he clearly has no intention of debating with anyone, which is a shame because all the other contributions have been constructive.

is it okay that he does this?

This is a gaming site. Nothing in the forums should be taken seriously except for the (Thread of CC Records) 1st 5's & TOP 5's. That should be taken seriously to the grave.

Welcome to interwebz.. by the way, for me, insult/offense = myth - even in real life. they do not exist unless you want the to do in your head.

Woodruff's comment came directly after this post of yours:

humans are animals, same as the lion or fish. therefore, we live by the laws of nature. no one says a lion is wrong to kill a zebra and eat it. the zebra's Zebra Rights have not been intruded.

if you are strong then you get to choose. if you are weak then you get dominated. this is how life works. only the weak pretend not and come up with 'rights' and so on, to act like it is justified for them to defy the natural order

There is a foe option, which will remove his posts from your sight.

Offensive is taken and not given. I.e. a comment is offensive if the person receiving it decides they are offended or takes offence.

This is the internet and people say things you dont like, man up and get over it. If you let every little comment get you down you are going to have a very unhappy life.

Insulting can definitely cross the boundaries set in the forum. As can baiting and trolling.

In any case, have you insulted others with any of your posts?

Do you think its okay to insult others on the forum?

And, lastly, if you were found to be insulting other players in your posts, what action would you suggest be taken?

I think perhaps using more than one example will be more useful in discussing the topic usefully.

So using these "randomly" selected quotes.... would you say that in general, a poster: calling someone an idiot; comparing their actions to a 5 year old; calling them angry and impotent; suggesting[b] all posters on CC but three are quasi-educated; calling them inexplicably 'tiny' would be insults; or questioning their debating technique, which you seem to equate to people saying rude things? [/b] Ill refrain from pointing out the irony on that last one.

If you do find them to be repeatedly insulting many people, as I incidentally have,....and, they all happened to be one player continually doing it...what would you suggest for appropriate action? Would you suggest disciplinary action as you seem to be suggesting Woodruff has warranted for insulting another poster?

I myself don't really think so, while many of the posts truly are obviously insulting, and some childishly so, its clear the poster is simply losing control, and probably just isn't as accustomed to complex discussions, so they find the need to delve into personal insults out of their frustration. While hardly professional, or arguably even mature, they don't seem to be the real insults that would fall under the flaming rules. This is just my opinion though.

But what do you think of such continual insulting posts, which just happen to be all from the same poster?

I think some would probably suggest a forum ban for repeated flaming. I suspect if they were also found to be continually baiting or trolling, that they would probably meet with some real potential punishments, but I don't pay attention to such things. I offer the speculation as a simple means to continue your original discussion, which without a doubt, is an interesting one.

Its also a great Idea for a thread. I'm fairly busy, but I think it would be great if you started a thread about baiting and trolling. I think its another topic that CC should discuss openly. Ill probably be able to dig up some examples for discussion, if I look real hard.

Yeah, but see I'm pretty sure this comment of yours should be directed to Woodruff, not the carpet man. Because Woodruff is the one who's actually so angry he's trying to insult the carpet man, while TCM is just expressing an opinion and blithely trying to engage in friendly discourse.

Also, yeah, of course Woodruff should be banned for this. He has a long history of targeting individuals (especially children) and trying to make them feel terrible about themselves by insulting them constantly. I guess he still hasn't learned his lesson that that's just not okay.

Don't feel obliged. You are the one that started the thread about insulting other players. If you are no longer interested in the discussion that you started, that's fine.

I don't think if you read it later, it will take less time though, so I'm not sure it matters if life is short. I think you will simply have to decide if you are truly interested in your topic or not. I wouldn't blame you if you're not. Its definitely a complete waste of time. The whole forum is really. Your time would probably be better spent somewhere else to be honest.

It didn't take much effort to find examples of insulting posts though, don't worry.
