I haven't played in many tournaments, but I'm pretty sure I've lost more than I've won, since I've never won a tournament!

This for me, too. I join tournaments because I think they'll be fun, not necessarily because I'll win. Because I suck. And I'm terrible at this game.

Game Finder> check off "Tournament", put "nietzsche" in the "with player" box.

four 1v1 games, expected wins 2, actual wins 1 -- you're below expectations there, but it's a pretty damn small sample.
four battle royales, no wins there, but then the expected wins round off to zero also
two 3-player games, expected wins 0.7 and you won 1, so that is good
two Trips, expected wins one and you won one, so precisely on target.
two 4-player games, expected wins 0.5 and you didn't win any, so again below expected, but another tiny sample too small to be statistically significant
two 6-player games, expected wins 0.3 and you won one, so you're comfortably above expectations there

Of course all of the samples are too small to be statistically significant, but as a rough ballpark snapshot you're performing roughly right on the money.

Since the minimum number of players in a tournament is 16, and some of them have 3-digit numbers of players, you can't really expect to win one unless you've played in at least 20. (I'm using "expect" in its purely statistical meaning, of course. I know that on the emotional level a normal person expects to win everything he plays.)

actually you could have a LOT of wins and just 1-2 defeats and still not win a tourney.

imagine a best out of 3 1v1 tourney with 16 players. in theory you could win the first 3 rounds with 3-0 and lose the final 1-2. total outcome 10 wins 2 losses. lost the tourney but got a damn good win percentage.

repeat this scenario a few times and i'd say you're a darn great 1v1 player despite not winning any tourneys.

PS: you actually are have 34 from 60(57%) when it comes to 1v1 tourney games. and you have +319 points. so stop complaining.

I used Map Rank to do the search for me. But with such a small number of games, you could use Dukasaur's way as well.

this is me.. normally i get kicked in semis or finals.. or normally.. but i think it is more common for me to get beaten in the last game than in the first atleast..

That's because tournaments have the REAL best players on the site.

With mapranking Aradhus and selecting tournaments, maprank says I have 156 wins from 276(57%)

I see though that clan wars are included in the list, and they're not really tournaments are they.

Thanks, I had never seen the Tournament check box lol.

BTW, I'm 0-4 in the off topics tourney, which is under way and that's probably why the games doesn't appear in the search already.

i agree there are some great players playing tourneys but you may also find the worst possible screw-ups in there.

the worst i've met are those that have no idea how escalating is played. and midway through the game when the cash-in value is 20+ and you have a big stack of troops and a set in your hand just waiting to start an elimination domino, an idiot smashes your big stack just because he wanted your terit to get a +2 bonus. he doesn't even bother taking you out for the cards. he just leaves you with a few troops sitting duck for whoever is next.

or bonus monkeys, but not the reasonable kind where they take a small continent if it's easy to do it. the worst kind that set their mind on the biggest continent and turn after turn they attack everybody on that continent. in most cases they are eliminated before even coming close to taking the continent. in some rare cases they do manage to take it but it's obviously too late too matter.

and now imagine being in an 8p escalating game with 4-5 players like that.
i;ve been there.

any 8-player esc is a clusterfuck in tournaments..
my alltime-worst tournament was bengas 8player escalating on conquer4.. i got out of that shit -460 POINTS!!! it went on forever and i didnt win a single game i think..

You know, we often hear this sort of frustration---but what about the other side?! Haha, I wonder if the 4-5 players in the game get tired of playing with the 'odd-man out' who isn't playing the game the way the rest of them are.

Maybe there is a newsletter investigation nugget in this idea somewhere!
