You only have to purchase entry into this fully-automated tournament. ;) If you want to play in any other tournament for free, you can play in any of the few dozen community-run tournaments always being offered! :D ;)

Isn't that how all non-CC tournaments work? You sign up for a competition, frequently paying an entry fee, and then if you win, you receive a prize. Yet CC should be different?

The Conquer Cup is like really hot hot sauce. You pay 5 bucks for the hottest bottle of hot sauce you can find to prove your manly tolerance. There's a slight chance you maintain your cool as you down the bottle of spicy liquid, but odds are you're gonna freak out and cry like a little bitch. Whether you come out with your cool on or not, it's still a fun experience to say "you did it" and a good story to tell the grandchildren one day. User-run tournaments are like an assortment of sauces to sample at a festival, each tasting quite satisfactory with their individual, unique flavors, but it's nothing to get all up in arms about necessarily. Nonetheless, the tastings are free and good.

I'm thinking the official line is "Here's a new event you can partake in........take it or leave it."

I speak for myself.

It's clearly just a money making scheme.

Nooooooooooo.... i mean, with all the updates and improvements going on around here, why would they need to run a scheme to make some quick cash? this place is running smoother than ever with a Crack Jack staff of volunteers making clear, fair and just rulings, no longer simply eliminating multis in games for their points!!! they have virtually eliminated farming and the leader board is now an accurate depiction of players skills!! they don't need to run schemes!!! The conquer cup is a celebration of CC and the hard road we all traveled to make it to this point!!!-el Jesus negro
