I was wondering a) what news outlets is it being sent to? and b) did they put anything into print, or online even about it?

There's 6 billion people in the world... even if you spent a 100 years watching those 15-minute bursts of fame, there could only be about 3 million famous people in that time. So for all 6 billion people to get to be famous for 15 minutes in a span of a 100 years, there'd have to be 2000 famous people at the same time.

So, I kind of think Andy Warhol was either full of shit or real crappy at math.

Exactly. If jleaux didn't want the information released, then he wouldn't have given it to lack for a press release.

It is actually published on some websites. Google it. Anyways, seems again there is some confusion between CC management of what is going on and what should/should not be done or what is or is not acceptable.

Interesting.

World’s Foremost Risk Players Named: Conquer Club Produces and Celebrates Top Tournament Risk Players

Westmount, Canada, January 10, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The world’s Annual Risk Classic, a two day Risk Tournament held annually in Pennsylvania, featured a clean sweep by Conquer Club players taking first, second, and third. The top spot was claimed by a scrappy thirteen year old participant Samuel Sandler of Warrenton, VA.

“It was a very balanced and exciting tournament to watch and be a part of for everyone involved,” said Carter Ruth, the Classic’s Tournament Director. “There were a lot of upsets as younger, more inexperienced players, began knocking off some of the old pros in the first round. And, some of the participants who are perennial favorites lived up to their reputation and created some carnage, as well.”

Conquer Club’s players also featured prominently in the Conquer Cup, the world’s largest Risk Tournament, which featured 625 players battling one another to be crowned the Conquer Cup World Champion. The top spot was claimed by Jacob Lowenstein, aka “jleaux,” of Toledo, OH.

“I feel very fortunate to have won. Throughout the tournament, I was fortunate to put together card sets at just the right time. My thanks go out to the administrators and my opponents for such a great tournament.”

Conquer Club, launched in 2006, is a free online Risk-like gaming website with 16,000+ regular players. Both the Annual Risk Classic and the Conquer Cup are the world’s top regularly occurring Risk Tournaments.

and when you google that info you get just about everything you could ever want to know about the guy... just sayin... funny how we have gone from banning an entire clan for posting their own personal pics in their clan sig to allowing the posting of names and cities, etc within the forums... just seems to be a real disconnect within the forums about what is and isn't against the rules...-el Jesus negro

Owen is right. Posting a user's real name is against the rules, even if it's done with good intentions, even if they give consent, even if there's been a press release. The forum mods ruthlessly edit out the real name of the Conqueror when it pops up, even though it's now common knowlege and there really isn't any chance of putting the genie back in the bottle.

I wouldn't be opposed to changing the rules to allow for stuff like this, but as they presently stand this is not allowed, even with the best intentions. The words "Anywhere. Ever." are rather absolute.

As the rules read it seems Lack violated the rules himself with a 'major infraction'. By posting personal information of a player on another website. Either way I don't see the big deal, and obviously the website 'owner' doesn't either. Maybe the rule needs to be revisited.

Press releases are designed to be released to the public. CC is a public forum. Therefore, the posting of the association has been sanctioned by lack since he was the one who made the press release. All I did was post the press release. It's not my fault it contained a person's real or supposed name. As was mentioned in the rules for the Conquer Cup, you would have a press release announcing your win (unless you wanted to decline it I suppose). All I did was post that press release so that Conquer Club could partake in the 15 minutes of fame.

yeah, we understand that... and until the rules are changed it is still a major infraction:

however, as most forum goers know, the rules are rarely followed or enforced fairly/evenly... the rules should be changed as this is a major infraction. as small as it seems, this is still very hypocritical of CC to do...-el Jesus negro

The technicality more or less comes down to that each player's signature contained not only a picture of them self, but also of the others clan members. They all had the same picture which contained all of individual pictures.

Seems ridiculous and like some mod was on a power hunger trip when they did that. If nobody in the said picture had any complaints about other people using it then conquerclub should not have cared or stepped in.

For a website based in America, the freedom of speech and information on this site is severely lacking IMO
