The player simtom has reached 40 points...i will speculate and that that is an all-time low...what's going to happen when he runs out?

His keyboard will explode and 1000 points will magicly appear the next time he logs in.

I don't think it's possible to run out of points with the current scoring system, is it?

It is. If he faces the next lowest player.

What happens if he plays and loses nothing but doubles or triples games? Can he reach zero this way?

What difference would it make?

Wow. if he reaches 0 points then beats anyone of the "regular" players he will gain a redonk amount of points. heh. maybe he's just waiting to get 0 points then he'll beat blitz and make him lose 1k.

He would only gain 100. What I am worried about is that dividing by zero is impossible, and I wonder if Lack's computer can take that.

No... he won't. Read the rules.

Edit: Damn, fastposted.

Let's say he has 5 points left and he plays a doubles game with a team mate with 2500 points. Then they lose to two players with 600 points each. What will happen?

Actually guys, it's 100 points max per player that he'll earn. Anyone who plays him when he's that low is asking for it. I just hope it doesn't turn some noob off to come in and lose 100 points off the bat!

Just blindly following the formula given in the instructions (that is, assuming there's nothing in that code that disallows a score from going negative) his score would be:

5 - ((2500 + 5) / (600 + 600) * 20) / 2 = -36

Then it gets interesting because if the next game he plays is a non-partner game regardless of whether he wins or loses his next game his score will improve.

It gets even stranger. A player who beat our below zero score player in a non-partner game would actually lose points for winning the game assuming the winning player had a positive score.

This bizarre situation will continue for our below zero score player until he crosses back over into positive territory whereupon the usual expectations return (you win your score goes up, you lose your score goes down).

Now, if two negative-score players played each other then things would be back to normal. The player who loses the game would see a reduction in his score, and the player who won the game would see an improvement in his score.

Let's hope for everyone's sake there's code that prevents scores from going below zero.

Of course, a player can go to a score of zero as follows:

A player with a score of 5 loses to a player with a score of 20. The first players score is:

5 - (5 / 20) * 20 = 0

Now once a player reaches a score of 0, he cannot lose anymore points if he loses any more games. His score can only remain the same (if he loses) or improve (if he wins). However, the player who beats the zero score player will get an undefined number of points for the win (the infamous divide by zero).

So maybe there's something in the code that guards against someone's score going to zero. Hope so.

This is all more than academic interest to me since I just discovered that I'm in two games with simtom. #-o

how can his score improve if he has zero. It will stay the same no matter what. 0-(0/winners score)*20=0. If im wrong please explain this to me

It's late, my brain stopped working about 15 minutes ago.... I think you have it right.

No, a score of zero can't improve if he wins because, there will be a divide by zero error when calculating his opponent's loses. The losses are calculated before the winning points are determined. This would probably cause the calculation to fail perhaps leaving the winner with his previous score of zero.

They get about 10 points

1200/2500*20=10
