Playing Etiquette

Obviously this is sour grapes on my part, so lets just get that out of the way now........

But what should be the Etiquette of a player who can no longer win a game, with more than two players left?

Game 10364197

Image

This picture was taken after yellow's turn. Here is what you need to know going into yellow's turn:

-yellow had 30 men on Hati
-I had 24 men on Belize
-Green had 8 men on Nicaragua, plus 3 1-man armies in cali, oregon and vancouver
-Green only had 2 cards, yellow only had two cards

So as you can see, yellow only has 33 men to try and take out 38 just to eliminate green and take his 2 cards, which yellow couldnt have cash.

I put myself in a position to have a 66% chance of winning this game, and yellow decided to screw me over when he had a 0% chance of winning. Now Pink will take out yellow and win, with or without a set.

Total bullshit move on yellow (Captain) to just hand pink the game.

Don't know if its player etiquette or if yellow's just clueless. Maybe he thought it could actually give him a chance, the poor thing.

maybe he was praying to the dice gods and thought they owed him one(he was then surprised)or maybe he thought to heck with this red aint gonna win, Most likely the second choice. Remember MB you have made players recognize your name, some of them may not like you.

Why did you take Cuba? If you had left Cuba you could have blocked in Florida and Sierra Madre. Yellow took a shot and failed but you are as much at fault if pink wins on his next turn.

about love you're right (true love that is, as love defines it own rules) but about war you're wrong. even war has rules.

War only has rules for those who have honor Zimmah, To some it is impossible to explain honor, When the only goal is win no matter what. ;)

There's rules in war put upon nations by others (the UN).
The same way others prohibit you from murdering somebody even if it's out of love.

I don't see a difference, both have rules.

Not according to the Geneva conventions.

On another note, wow, that North America map looks bad. Borders are unclear and army circles overlap important features. Someone should seriously revamp it...

Is this post making the argument it is rude to play badly?

As if making stupid moves is rude, I must be quite an annoying person!! Especially when I dont know the map or am a little tipsie....

It's still a relevant question. What should you do when you have no chance to win? Screw over someone else based on who you like less or expect to lose less points to? Or just do nothing?

Natty, I know what the Geneva convention says,my point on that was,Very few people either know what honor is or have it nowdays, most truces or treaties etc,. Are broken on a whim. How many times have you been in a game with a truce that got broken quite suddenly. If I am in a game with someone and I make a deal(which is rare) I will hold to it even on the occassion it cost me the game not to break it. But knowing you are going to lose and making sure that the person who out played you doesnt win nah thats BS. I usually foe them for that and their rating will reflect what I think of them.

That's just stupid. Why would you do such a thing?

Your first obligation in any game is to do your best to win. Anything less is disrespectful towards your opponents. The only reason to make truces is if they benefit towards that goal, and you can always end them if they no longer benefit you.

In the larger context I do not violate truces because I do not want the reputation as a truce violater on this site. I make truces that I believe benefit me, if I make a mistake in my assumption that the truce will benefit me I live with it and hope to think things through more clearly in the next game.

I believe it will benefit me more in more games in the long run to honor even a poorly made truce than it will to violate it and win one game. Am I wrong? Maybe, but that is the choice.

No one's talking about violating truces... just ending them.

I'm prett sure you made a mistake by overextending yourself and not defending your border with Pink...that's an error on your part. You weren't going to win anyway because you had over seventy troops near yellow and not a single one anywhere else...what's worse is that you had some in Cuba...

Natty I am saying the same thing as Rockfist, On those occasions that I have made a truce that in the end went against me I lost the game, Dont get me wrong I dont roll over and give up. If I have 1 troop left I attack on my turn. But on the other hand If someone has me pinned and by my attack I know I cant win but it will screw the person who outplayed me, I cant bring myself to do that to someone. Not even against the players I dont like on this site. There is a difference between forums and maps. Honor even on game sites means something to some people, either you have it or you dont. And dont take that wrong natty WE have never played so I am not questioning your honor.

You are very right. We usually make truces because our position is tenuous at best and a truce is a long shot but since a good player never quits he takes a shot at a truce. There are some who are experts at truce making and this is a skill, one I do not have. One win is never worth breaking a truce if you plan to keep playing.
