Why is your favorite map, your favorite map? Details please

For my money, Stalingrad is where its at.

Love the look of it for one, it is very different from anything else out there.
The gameplay is radically different each game and especially with skilled Stalingrad players (You know who you are :D ) the map lends itself to so many different strategies.....brilliant it is. Its constructed beautifully, accurately and logically. Its not for the faint of heart however, I learn something new about it every game.
Even the dreaded 2nd turn "disadvantage" is largely overstated with proper play.
I don't know of any setting that won't lend itself to a great game.

.02

I am looking for others opinions on THEIR favorite maps and not for any type of argument or whatever.

North America

First off, I love big maps, and NA has 70 territories I believe.
Plus it looks sharp and has great color to it.
It's just a fun map for 5-6 players games.

I have no single favorite. I like sampling a bit of this and that, and I always love trying new maps.

Age of Merchants because it's the first map on CC that threw away classic gameplay and came up with something completely new. plus i made it :P

My most favorite map : world2.1

Reasons :
* it is big enough
* it has the best mission ever in CC : TO CONQUER THE WORLD!!

And for 1vs1 New-World >> easy games, just to relax my mind ;)

Stalingrad is my favorite map too. Out of the 8800 games ever played on that map, I have played in approx. 20% of them and I have not yet grown weary of the map. My favorite setting is 1 v 1 no spoils ...fog or no fog... in speed, I prefer no fog. My first 500 games I played without clickies or BOB and was very hectic during speed games. A close 2nd is arms race and it is easier find a speed game to join than hosting a Stalingrad that sits, at times, for hours.

As you well know Stalingrad is by far my favorite map also. I love the intricate possibilities, the sneaky snipers, mildly useful AA, well positioned artillery and possibly game ending turns with the planes. When someone loses 32 troops on turn 1 from a 6 deploy you know the map has something special going on. I'll disagree going first isn't possibly a huge advantage, as I was lucky enough to have gone first in most of the games from chap's last 1 vs 1 tournament, but without a reasonably decent drop you are just as likely to have your ass handed to you. Going up against teams that are unfamiliar with the strategy of the map allows afficionados to overcome turn order/drop/dice and pull off some serious come-from-behind victories.

Of course dice are dice no matter how good you are...

I used to love Waterloo because of it's complexity and all the different variables it produced when played in different game types. However, I've begun to dislike it, ever since I got handed a string of crummy drops. I"m staying away for a while.

As of now, my favorite is random. It's like a gift waiting to be opened! You never know what's inside!

I would first go with "Random", because I love the strategy behind being ready for any map at all. However, presuming you don't want that answer since it's not an actual map...

For me, it has to be Circus Maximus. The strategy of that map is pretty unique for the site, and I greatly appreciate that there are no area bonuses.

over all my favourite map is hands down feudal war foggy.. it is the perfectly balanced map.. drop does very little and it all comes down to who can read the opponents moves the best.. (for that reason i never liked feudal epic since every instance has the same "steps" to it and you really cannot read what your opponent has done).
1v1 and single player multi feudal is by far the best map i would say, a new favourite is 4,5 or 6 player assassin foggy where your reading-skills really are put to the test..

another 1v1 favourite is ww2 poland for the same reasons.. i just dont like the way drops and starting decides 1v1 games (for this reason i prefer ww2 poland fresstyle 24h settings) (24h since im old and play with drop-downs..

team-games i also really like Stalingrad for reasons stated above, but also more standard maps like discworld, or big ones like ww2 europe..

runners up; waterloo, battle for iraq and cricket (a new favourite with lots of options for both dubs, trips or quads)

my 5 cents

Arms Race for me

I never get tired of it

To me it is like a chess match (skill and luck)--the luck part being more a part of cc than chess of course.

I have a hard time saying there is any map this is my all time favorite, but I play a lot of games on Germany because I think I've got a decent understanding of how to win on that map, and so winning on it certainly contributes to my favoritism of it!

Actually, if you count by the time I spend on each map, I'd have to say my favorite map is whichever map I'm currently making.

For the number of games I've played total, yes! A lot relative to that. Well maybe not a lot, but it feels like a lot. Haha ;)

Now that's fantastic. I have to say, your talent is there, for some reason your other maps (other than Nordic Countries) just have never done it for me graphically, but this one is top of the line. Looking forward to it.

Thanks. Maybe you refer to my earliest maps, which would of course be of lower quality. When you do something a lot you inevitably get better at it...
