Conquer Club convention

Postby luns101 on Sat Mar 31, 2007 1:10 pm

OK, this topic has already been covered, but I probably either missed it or didn't start reading the General Discussion threads until later. Would it be fun or worthwhile for Conquer Club to have a convention?

If you think so, what country would make a good host? Also, which cities would be the best site for something like this? What would be the best time of the year for an event like this to be held?

My own vote is for Canada, and the real reason is because I would want an excuse to travel up there and get to know the culture a little better. Whatever you vote...let us know your reasons. Obviously the cost of making the trip to wherever it would be held will affect people's decisions.

Some people argue whether England is part of Europe, but I made them separate for the purposes of this poll.

What do you mean by a convention?

Convention definition

Postby luns101 on Sat Mar 31, 2007 1:28 pm

hecter wrote:What do you mean by a convention?

By a convention, I mean a place where members can meet each other personally as well as the mods. We all get to look at the new maps and discuss ideas in forums, but it's not the same thing as talking with someone face to face.

The obvious danger in this is when people who can't stand each other might meet in person and all hell would break loose. The most recent controversy involves Dougcarr1, would he show up and go postal on people? I don't know.

Perhaps it's not a good idea after all, but I thought I would at least ask the question. So what kind of things would you like to have at a convention, if they were able to hold one?

Would be easier to have several locations worldwide.

i think this is the single greatest idea i have ever read on this site. i voted for U.S. because i estimate that the plurality of members live in the states. however, i agree w/ wicked; maybe a north american convention, an aussie/south asia one, euro, etc.

this is awesome for so many reasons. i have a feeling it would be an absolute madhouse wherever we had it. nothing like nerd debauchery......

then there's the marketing potential of this kind of event. nice exposure and this place would become HUGE among strategy gamers. wowie wow wow....

Would be the awesome.

Strategy worskhops from the best players.
Real life tourney using home made CC boards.
Random entertainment from "talented" CC members.

I'd definately go to one in Europe if at all possible. I'm such a nerd.

It would be suitable in either of these places:

-Eastern U.S.A. (New York, Boston, etc.)
-Eastern Canada (Toronto, Ottawa, etc.)
-Western Europe (London, Paris, etc.)

Apparently, most players are from U.S.A. or Canada. And it would be more convenient to the meeting occur in the east coast, since it has more population and it is closer to Europe.

We can have one in Toronto, one in California, and one in Scotland. How's that sound?

I meant, either of those places would be suitable, if only a single meeting was set.
Hecter gave good locations, by the way.

I know some nice places in Toronto, but expensive. London, Ont. has a GREAT place called the lamplighter inn, if this thread grows, I'll ask my buddy there how much the hall is for the day or weekend. any feeling for or against London, Ont? .....it's much easier and nicer to get around in than Toronto!
