(Don't be fooled by the terrible quality, they're all yellow except for Cornwall there at the bottom-left.)

That movie has sure encouraged me. It often gives me hope for the 60 opposition men to suddenly disappear in a frenzy of 20-sided defense dice. How about you?

1 to 44? Dont let that movie fool you the spartains were far greater than that. They took down between 500-1500 each depending on whos records you go by(according to wiki). Now that would make someone really mad if it happened in this game, lol. But lets face it that wasnt just pure luck. One spartian warrior was worth far more in battle than 1 persian slave.

And for the record I have had and seen many great comebacks and defences in risk. Most involved great britian. (10 on 1 and I won!!!) My bro once put every troop he had in kamchaka, I dont even remember him attacking that game. He called it his great wall of kamchaka, my other bro who had built an army about twice the size (long game and so cards were worth a lot) attacked with about 40 people, about twice what was defending. He lost, thus letting me carve him up and win!

not just Persian slaves. They sent in their elite forces, The Immortals, to take on the Spartans and The Immortals were slaughtered like the rest!

Great combat tactics, use of the feint, and all around general talents lead to the stand. Showing how a more disciplined, mobile, and well equipped forces can take on hordes of men.

maybe in the movie. In real life though the immortals were slaughtered just as much. Look it up on Wiki!

Nein. Xerxes used his elite troops, the Immortals, who were actual Persians. And Sparta's strength lay in its phalanx formation. Throughout the battle they were able to hold off huge attacks from Persia while sustaining very minimal casualties. The only reason I see for Sparta's eventually loss of that little skirmish was when they broke the phalanx when attacked from behind. Don't know why they did that, but I wasn't there, so I'm not one to judge.

FOR SPARRRTAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to yell this really loud in game chat and maybe u will have a change =P. Btw the real Spartans faced even worse odds. It was approximately 300 Spartans and some other Greeks equaling about 10,000 such at Thermopolye vs couple hundred thousand I think??? of Xerxes' warriors. Anyway on the first day only a few spartans died, about 2-3, and around 10,000 of the Persians died. Same odds for a couple of more days. So if you really wanted to go Spartan, that one guy better hold out for a couple thousand more attacks =P

A check in from the student of military history (sorry, I had to.)
300 Spartans
700 associated other Greeks
Herodotus puts the number of Persians at over 5 million. It might have been possible, given the size of the Persian empire, but it's unlikely. I believe Thucydides dismisses the estimate. However, modern historians consider over a million to be perfectly reasonable.
The phalanx was broken because a hoplite phalanx, by definition, only faces one direction. You're thinking about a Swiss or Scottish square when you say you don't know why they broke when attacked from behind. And as regarding CC Spartans... sorry, pal, you're out of luck. A single Spartan was dangerous, but the great strength of the Spartans was in their teamwork, which means that they increase in fighting power exponential to their number. One guy just isn't going to cut it.
