Any suggestions of good new/random map strategies for beginners :?:
I know my question is not an easy question. Any advice on how to approach a new map, or a new type or map, will be appreciated. :)

download bob, read instructions and textmap..
then play according to gametype.. 1v1, keep at them, 5-8player esc focus on cards.. the basics..
i think bob is the best advice i can give,, and reading the instructions/log on the map you end up on..

Check out the addon part of the forums, you will need to run firefox and download greasmonkey and then bob runs off that.. Basically it's a tool to analyse the map, and instructions how to install is available in that part of the forums..
Tools and enhancements..

It really depends on the map. Maps like feudal war will have a totally different strategy to world 2.1, play on a variety of styles of maps and you'll be able to apply different strategies to different situations.

for beginners - don't play random at all

for intermediate - play random after learning most maps

Thanks anonymous, gillipig, usernamer, greenoaks!
those are all good suggestions.

and in my case I should clarify, that I'm not completely a beginner at Classic map and the game familiar to the players thereof (although, having been offline for awhile, I would still be considered a rookie). Though I've played other Classic type maps, I'm a beginner at all of the other types of maps.
but I don't want to limit the topic to myself -- any and all tips and suggestions are useful :)

this is why you (or others) should not play random.

stop playing the Classic type maps and immerse yourself in those other types of maps. there are some awesome maps out there.

try Feudal War. Pelo War, Feudal Epic & New World are similar

Yes, although I've already committed myself to random, you are correct. and I will look at those maps, too.
Thanks again, greenoaks. :)

One good way is to look at the logs of how some of the more experienced players play. That way you can get a feel for how they approach a certain drop, how long to wait before going on an all out assault etc. Another good way is to check the official strategy guides, as those provide a pretty in depth overview of how a map is played on certain game settings. A third way is to ask someone to teach it to you via PM, 1v1 or doubles.

and a fourth way is to join a tournament like the Watch, and learn: Celtic Nations in my sig. all games are sunny and you are not eliminated the 1st time you lose.

there is also a series of tournaments by koontz1973 for those who have never won a tournament called Get Your First Winners Medal. send him a pm requesting to be notified when he starts his next one.
