ConquerClub's Usergroups: How To Revive A Lost Cause?

It seems like many usergroups die after a while. And depending on the topic of the group and amount of active members, the group may last a year, down to just a couple weeks. For all you usergroupies out there, what do you feel is the main cause of usergroups' inactivity? What do you do to help keep the group active?

Personally, I feel that when a usergroup leader has another baby, she may have less time for the internets. But perhaps that's a very specific answer to a general question....
Why do usergroup members quit groups rather than trying to raise the activity level?
poke

Clearly this post is in response to me and the group formerly known as Qomedy Qlub.

A good usergroup knows what type of people to let in the door. AU for example.

usergroups fail because they have no purpose.
sure they have one to start with such as a place to discuss xyz but once that has been discussed, what then?
clans have a better chance at surviving because of the constant reinvigoration clan wars/leagues/etc provide.

It is a battle to keep a usergroup active, I have been a member of a few and only 1 is still going. I struggled for over a year to keep the Australia and New Zealand group active before giving up on it and eventually it was closed

I have been "Gatekeeper" of xi games for over 3 years, and a member for almost 5. Our usergroup is based on a motto that pretty much sums up our feelings: "Friends killing friends, with honor". We have established a Code of Conduct, and are very selective of who we accept as prospective members. They must agree to abide by our way of playing, and be looking for an "online family" where they can play their games without worrying about encountering jerks, shady tactics, or alliances, truces, or abusive language or tactics. We all strive to make our games enjoyable and fun by partaking in game chat, and using our forum as a central "meeting" place. It's always a source of help if required, and always has interesting reading, pictures, updates, etc. In short, my opinion is that if you want to make a usergroup attractive to others, you have to decide what type of player you want to attract, and then offer them what they want. Keep the forum active, useful, and fun. And ensure you admit players you trust and who are like-minded in what they want in a usergroup. Just my two cents worth. Hope it's helpful. Good luck.

It's a good thing you can rely on people to get up to great drunk shenanigans. And there's always new types of booze to try out.
