Calling a person by their color

Somebody, who shall not be named, recently became distraught because I addressed this person in-game by their player color.

I would have let this go, but someone in live chat said that this is apparently common? Wut?

First of all, we're not friends. We may be friendly to each other, but I'm not inviting you over to my house to watch DA BEARS. Not sure why you need the kind of intimacy of addressing you by your name.

Second, we're talking about an 8 person game. That's a lot of damn people to keep track of, and it's far easier for me to refer to others as their color, so I don't have to convert name to color and back again every time I want to type something or read something in game chat.

Third, this person did not even address me by my name when I asked why there was offense taken, rather using a name of "affection," I don't know, was it "sweetheart" or something?

So why all the agony over this? Does it make sense? Do you get upset when people don't call you by your name in game chat?

WARNING: Never ever ever never call thegreekdog "green". It makes him highly rabid.

I'm confused by any oversensitive response to this non-issue, because addressing a player by their troop color is the most common form of recognition that occurs in this game. That is, when people even bother with the labor intensive process of actual communication via the game chat feature.

Equally puzzling is a person from Fresno, California inviting anyone over to watch "Da Bears."

No matter what you do, there is somebody somewhere who disagrees with it. If it works for you, and 90% of the people you play with don't mind, then don't worry about the 10% (or less) who do.

I've almost never been called by my army color...
but it has happened...

I've almost never called someone else by their army color...
but it has happened...

But I will call a spade a spade,
it's just how i was made...

and i will call a commie red,
yeah, you heard what i said...

and i will bitch at he who is green,
when they are being particularly mean...

and i will want to yell at blue,
if he is playing without a clue...

but i've never complained about yellow,
so far, they've always been mellow...

and don't get me started about teal,
or "cyan", for those who make it a big deal...

Well if they're on your team, I believe in calling them by their name. If you're conducting diplomacy or saying gg, color name is acceptable.

Well Teal... sigh... First, I was NOT distraught. Second, making this thread will not make me like you any less so keep trying but I wont hate you. Third, I happen to be a girl... from Texas... and I call almost everybody by names of affection. Once you asked me not to and continued to call me "gray" just to be mean, I started calling you "Teal" instead; which you preferred (Go figure). Anybody who knows me on here knows that calling people by names of affection is just something I do.Why are you still making a deal out of this Teal? Can't we just smack each other on the butt, say "GG" and move on?!

Normally I would agree with DIbbun, about calling peops by their game color. BUT, if a woman is Grey, reminding her in game chat that she MIGHT be grey, well that is just igniting a powderkeg bro. . .

At the beginning of each game, I randomly assign everybody else in the game a name that corresponds to a Jersey Shore cast member.

PS.... Game chat which I was allegedly distraught in:

2011-08-19 21:36:34 - Dibbun [team]: gj gray and gj team
2011-08-20 14:40:55 - dazerazer [team]: Thank you; Im not "gray" though baby. People call me dazey or Diana. lol
2011-08-20 14:41:36 - dazerazer [team]: "Gray" would be a great label for a noob teammate. lol

May I please submit into evidence, Exhibit A... the distraught "LOL"s... DEFINITELY a sign of the distraught attitude I portrayed....just sayin

I agree. You really need to get a handle on yourself.
