Cheating and abuse, infractions served concurrently?

I had a member that has been on the site less time than myself ask how bans work. I gave the standard response about not having access to pm's and their wall. Then ran out of answers..... I'm sure the things you can and can't do when banned are written down somewhere. Would be super if someone could drop a link. I've had a little look, but an ancient dinosaur like myself and searching for something on a website..... have noticed when I'm reading a forum that it will state who is viewing the thread, a few player names, then guests(are these banned players or players hiding their online status) So that is question number 1.
Question number 2. - If someone is on a ban, and they are "convicted" of another infraction whilst they are banned. Is the new infraction/ban served at the same time, or added on?
Rather embarrassing asking these noobish questions. Feel free to call me a blind, ignorant old dumb arse. I promise not to enjoy it too much

For question two, I believe owenshooter's case makes it somewhat clear:

Sometimes that guest you see browsing the forum is me not signed in.
Anyone that hits this site, whether they have an account or not, has access to view the public forums and are shown as a guest. As a guest you also get to see poll #s but if you are signed in and haven't voted you can't see the numbers.
There are many times that infractions are lumped together and served as if it were one.

I think unless they are well into a punishment then it would be added on afterwards. Its all up to the admin...which makes no sense

Thanks for the link joodoo

jefjef wasn't aware that anyone could read public forums, would create some interesting issues if players on this site had a user name/identity that ran over multiple sites/applications. I guess it is a case of buyer beware, and if you want something to be private don't put it anywhere on the internet.
Lord V - so this is another example of admin discretion?
Say admin doesn't like me, I get hit hard for doing something. Someone admin likes does the same thing 4or5times before getting punished, then if and when they are punished don't get half the penalty I get. - hypothetical but could this happen? Doesn't really seem that fair if this is true.
Thanks again for your well thought out answers and help folks

Question 1 has already been answered.
Question 2, how many times have you seen this happen? In that case you are referring to, he was being punished for posts made at a certain time frame, then comes this report about a post that he made earlier prior to those posts of what he was currently being banned for. So I lumped them together anyway. As for the discretion thing, whether it be a mod's discretion or an admin, as long as there is a disciplinary measure involved, it is expected that there will always be some who is always ready to criticize everything and feels they are being targeted.

I'm not referring to any case. Still looking for a straight answer to question 2. King A, you seem to think that I'm referring to owenshooter. Not the case at all. This is a question because I would like to know. If I don't understand something that could feasibly affect myself or my clan I want to understand it fully. If someone approaches me I want to be able to give them the right information.
Ignorance is no excuse in a courtroom.... Though in a courtroom all the "facts" about procedure are there to be learnt. With clear precedents being set you generally know where you stand. Back to the question.
If someone was found guilty of another wrong doing whilst they were already on a ban, would they have extra time added to their ban, or would the time they were already serving suffice?
Lord V stated that it was up to the individual admin boffin making the call. If that is the case, are there specific rules/formula the admin uses, or is it based on gut feeling/discretion?
King A you seem to be feeling some heat. I've stated on multiple occasions that you poor buggers have difficult jobs to do, not trying to break anyones balls. Maybe don't read motivations and intentions into this question that aren't there. This is not an attempt to criticise you folks. I'm trying to get a clear answer to a hypothetical question. Even if the answer is - f*ck off, you don't deserve to know. That would be a bullshit answer, but it would be answer. As for the people feeling targeted. Just because your paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you!

Gut feeling. i think it would generally be obvious if they deserved more punishment as a result of their actions

Now uncle bogie I'm pretty sure the only reason king a referenced the owen case was in response to joodoo and not due to your post...

I don't think there would be as much backlash if penalties were written down and people knew what the penalty was going to be.
As of now there are only known penalties for multi and things like that and you end up getting permanently banned.
I think what Bogan is looking for are written rules and penalties for the 'misdemeanors.' He wants to be able to know what penalties he will get when he breaks the rules.

extra time? yes, if you were on a ban, and a new/different case was made with a bantime then that time would add up to the time to be served. the incremential penalty list would most likely apply. however some cases do get a different treatment because they are different. That last part is up to the judgement of the admins. it has also sometimes happened that some things were bundled into one penalty instead of incremental, however if new information after the penalty merits a penalty then it wont be lumped together and 2 seperate penalties will be given, in essance a lenghing of the bantime, aka the extra time.
there have been examples of both already

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, examples of
both already. No chance of a consistent approach? Or just mod of the day in their mood of the moment?
seb thanks for trying to help.

its not a computer program thats making the calls you know. Dont break the rules would mean it does not have impact. breaking them often should mean it would be punished. that some get a lighter sentence because of extenuation reasons should not be a problem, unless you begrudge them that ofcourse.

Bogan I thought you were talking about Owen when I read this. Let me explain my thought process for you.
In the case of owen he is on a three month vacation for his forum transgressions. The newest complaint is from before he went on vacation. I don't like it if someone is paying for their actions and then older items get brought up that fit the same category. In this instance if owen would have been on vacation for the older instance then he would not have been around for the more recent one and the time frame is close enough that I feel they could be lumped together.
Another example would be secret diplomacy.
If I am looking at a secret diplomacy complaint and I find several games where there was secret diplomacy over a several week time frame I will rule on them all at the same time.

Thanks for taking the time to explain your thinking on this evil. Makes sense. Does everyone operate the same way, or does it come down to who is making the decision, will masli make a different call to you.
