How Does A Clan Work?

Postby vgmmaster on Sun Mar 18, 2007 11:44 am

For the past week or so, I've been thinking of starting my own clan. The question though is, how do I (or how should I) create my own clan.

I figure getting an off-site forum is the first step, but I'm not too sure where to go beyond that.

I never heard of EWL. Or at least, I don't know what the acronym stands for.

However, I don't really care if my clan (if it's created) is better then other people's clans. It's mainly going to be me and some people I know from another site anyways.

EWL is hendys elmo clan. You can't create clans right now until lack makes the clanny system better.

One clan to rule them all!

You can't make one, but that doesn't stop you from making a off site forum and creating a "clan" in CC.

Any who, which clan do you think is the best if you can't vote for your clan?

Idiot, he said if you CAN'T vote for your own. And EWL is just full of multis and people who don't know who or how old hendy is.

Well, being a member of a clan who has seen other clans regularly rising like suns, only to crumble like dirt a few weeks or months later, let me put in my two cents.

Guess the first clans were the Super Elite, the Dragoons, the BW’s and the CWC. (Anyone with a better memory, please correct me if I’m wrong here.)

The Super Elite people unfortunately wasn’t very “Elite.” Nor did they linger around for long. And as far as I can tell, CWC isn’t really active anymore as a clan. (But perhaps the rumor of their death is exaggerated?) The Dragoon symbol is still out there, and it seems to be alive and kicking even though perhaps not that visible in the call out forum.

Now, my two cents:

1. An off-site forum is definitely a thing to consider. It will provide an opportunity to have different discussion well ordered and well moderated. There are plenty of free bulletin board sites out there.

2. The you need people. It won’t be much of a clan with you being the only member. Perhaps you know some people from having played games with them. Then, once you’re settled, you can bring in more people.

3. Just make sure that the people fit together. The Super Elite clan crumbled, as far as I can tell, from the fact that the people put in there didn’t get along that well. Maybe have a common denominator? BW’s tend to be player preferring no card, team games (preferably against newbies since those are easiest to defeat).

4. Maybe you need rules, maybe you don’t. Maybe you need a hierarchy, maybe you don’t. The basic structure should be put in place in the beginning at least, in order to avoid problems a few weeks into the future.

5. Then you need a cool avatar. Like the Eagles, who now spread fear and envy throughout the CC forums.

That’s pretty much it. Stir those five basic ingredients and let them settle, then you have a clan. All you have to do then is to announce the clan in the call-out pages and watch the flame threads erupt (80% of which is likely to be started by a Stache, but that’s just due to their sexual confusion and CC gaming insecurity).

Good post from alstergren. Just a correction... the 1st clan was Elite Core, not Super Elite. The survivors joined XiGames.

Yes, the Dragoons are active and growing, thanks. And, although we have accepted many good members from defunct clans, we never had a member moving to another clan.

2 other comments, from my experience:

1) A common denominator about games preferences is not needed. What is needed is a good amount of activity. Internal games and tourneys, challenges against other clans, open games. Games preferences can just make happy a small family. Maybe its really important for small clans, but if you intend to create a large one, you really need is activity.

2) About hierarchy, I will just tell you how we do in our clan. Im not really a leader, Im more alike to a manager. The majority rules, Im not running the clan based on my primary ideas. We usually have open spaces about all important questions, like if a player will be accepted as member, what clan we will challenge next, etc. I think is the way to go, because we all are skilled and honourable players, we are like equals. But I admit, as founder and manager my opinions count a lot, because my mates really trust me, I feel.

Ah, yes... the Elite Core. True. Super Elite didn't really feel right when I wrote it.

Without giving up to much about internal BW affairs, looks like we slightly different approaches to our clans here. But I’m sure there’re more than two approaches. With respect to the Elite Core, guess they used the “chaos approach”. :D

Is any of their old members still around btw? As I recall it, they posted their ranks/positions in their insignia. A pretty military set-up or something. I kind of miss CWC, they played a lot of team games when they were most active. Good players too.

You don’t need official recognition from CC to form a Clan. Honestly speaking, I’m not so sure that many people are that concerned with the official Clan status etc. right now. Just form your clan, slap on a name and a logo and you’re all set in the eyes of the other clans. Whether or not you have a forum on the CC site, won’t make your clan lesser than the older ones. Please, go ahead. We need some more clans battle it out with.

For those considering an off-site clan forum, this is a decent site that offers free forums.
