A moral question about foeing

Postby Symmetry on Wed Jul 06, 2011 11:36 pm

So I've recently been foed, and the poster in question has a bit of a short temper. He likes to make a big thing out of how you're on his foe list even if you haven't ever had a particular desire to talk to him.

So anyway- my question- is it morally ok, once you know that you've been put on someone's foe list unreasonably, and they've been kind of a dick, on say, my wall... Is it ok to send a response about how much of a dick they've been?

It's kind of up to them if they want to read it.

Same reason you answered this thread- because I'm tempted to answer, even though it doesn't matter much. What did your answer to this thread matter to you if not that?

Condemn to a fiery pit, or grant absolute mercy for all eternity?

I'm kind of a purgatory kind of guy- not so fashionable nowadays, so somewhere in between.

Yeah- didn't play against him. I was foed for a posted message in forums. Unfortunately I can't really help who replies to those- well, except by ignoring via foeing. That's one of the options though.

well im not gonna respond with 'why does it matter' or 'who gives a f*ck' because a vast majority of the forum browsing public on CC seem to believe that just because something is not important to them then it must not be important to everyone. personally, if i was in your situation i would not bother because i just wouldnt care... But im gonna assume that you're asking this question because it is important to you/you are honestly wondering what others think.

Now, to answer your question, i think you are being way to nice. If something is bothering you, you have a right to adress it. tell the person, and be honest with them. call them whatever youd like. whats the moral dileamma here? every gets your respect until they lose it, seems like he has lost it, you owe him no respect, and IMO its not immoral of you to call him out. if he keeps being an ass, foe him and procceed with your life.

Just ignore. Is it really worth the time and effort to reply? I think not.

Honestly- I've never foe'd anyone. It's kind of a personal rule. I usually prefer talking to people, and most of the time they either accept an apology if I've been in the wrong, or they accept that they were in the wrong at least a little. I don't really like the idea of foeing someone over what they've said. I usually prefer to reply. Foeing over game behavior I can understand.

I'm not going to deny that I was annoyed. I think most people are tempted to respond when they're insulted, and it sometimes feels like you're a bit weak if you don't respond.

In this case, I kind of feel that any kind of response would just add fuel. He's a poster who genuinely takes pride in people foeing him, so seems to behave towards others as if that's what he wants.

But yeah- that was solid advice, and trini was probably right. Natty, however, had the best response, but I won't be following it.

Thanks people.

Cheers- I'm happy to leave this open to general discussion, and Paddy was right that I'm also interested in how other people would react/ what their thoughts are.

So yeah- I won't reply and I won't foe, but if it's an interesting enough subject then I'll leave it open to further replies.

It wasn't me. I admit I foe people, just temporarily, sometimes when they are only trying to derail a thread, or continue to be pessimistic pricks and make negative posts and turn everything into personal stuff.

Who have you been bashing that made them foe you? :)

Was it someone from the Hot + Sexy + NSFW thread?

And I'd take the high road, don't say anything. Unless you think it was a misunderstanding, then maybe send a PM to try to explain, but if it's just an attitude problem, don't respond.

i have only once contacted someone about being on their foe list. i was signing up for someone's tournament and went to their page to ask a question and was surprised to see i was blocked from contacting them. i posted in the tourney thread that i would join if it was okay, since i was foed, and the TO got in contact immediately me with me to apologize and let me know i wasn't foed anymore. must have been a medals thing or something.

everyone else i ignore, i could care less that you show your contempt towards a stranger by blocking me from your life. i didn't want to be a part of it anyway. nyah.

I foe people when they don't say good luck or good game (or anything throughout the entire match for that matter). If people are on CC just for the game as a clicking zombie and not to at least feign interest in the users or community they may as well be playing an AI.

I love how the simple act of being foed causes some people internal torment and moral dilemma.

If I were in this situation I would foe the person - send a profanity laced flaming pm to him and tell all my friend about it. Maybe even get a cat.

Good thread! btw. This is internet. Not rl.

For a long long time I never foed anyone, but just recently I finally foed a couple people. But it was due to in-game stuff. I still can't imagine foeing somebody over forum posts. Sure, there's a lot of idiots on the forums, but who cares? If I don't want to talk to them I can't be forced to. In-game is different: if I start a public game and they decide to join I might be stuck with them.

Hey jefjef, I'm hurt. Here I thought we had something special, and now I hear you've been sending loveletters to Symmetry behind my back. How much do you have to hurt me, man? Wasn't that pretend marriage thing you did with that hussy enough?

I mean, it's been ages since you left a surprise heart-shaped box of chocolates on my wall, and I'm tired of being the only one who's working for this relationship, you know? I have feelings too.
