CCNotify - Persistent Email Notifier

Postby vishesh on Wed Mar 14, 2007 11:08 am

Hey all,
I'm fairly new to CC, but it would be fair to say that I am now addicted. I noticed that there is no built-in feature on CC to send email / SMS notifications every time it is your turn in any of the games you are currently playing.

In the spirit of improving the gaming experience, I whipped together something in PHP that will alert you (via email/SMS) every time it is your turn in one of your games. I've tested it out among some friends, and it seems to be stable (if a bit no-frills). You can set up the alerts here:

If you are a hard-core CC player, you might want to try it out. A couple notes first:

1. It's very very beta, so no frills
2. No guarantees that it will continue to be supported
3. If you want to disable the alerts later, you'll have to email me (link is on the website). I haven't set up the ability to disable alerts yet.

With that out of the way--enjoy!

You might wanna get GreaseMonky. It'll help you out a lot, and they have similar things like this for it.
In heaven... Everything is fine, in heaven... Everything is fine, in heaven... Everything is fine... You got your things, and I've got mine.

Check out this thread:

http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8801

I believe these three things already do notification:

Conquer Tell Notifier by jonducrou
Firefox extension shows at the bottom of the browser and tells you when it's your turn

Tell Me When Notifier by Fantius
Sits in your Windows system tray and tells you when it's your turn

Desktop Notifier by kevinc
Floats on your desktop and tells you when it's your turn

If after looking at these three tools, you still believe yours does something extra then you might submit it for inclusion in that thread.

Thanks.
Cheers,

I think you both missed the point. This will email / SMS you with a notification, which is a far different sort of notification than having something sitting on your desktop that pops up when it is your turn.

What if you can't install a notifier on your desktop at work?

What if you can't install plugins because you can't use Firefox at work?

What if you're on the go constantly and not connected to the 'net?

What if you just wait till you get to your home pc to take your turn? or else just check back regularly.

Fair points, I didn't mean to say that your tool was unneeded.

For instance, the Tell Me Notifier referenced above does support email and I believe SMS notification. It does however require installation of the .net framework, so perhaps your solution is better in that regard.

I should have called it the Tell Me When Notifier. Maybe that caused the confusion. When you open the Tell Me When Notifier, the Email tab allows you to put in your email address and you will be notified when one of your games changes status to READY. I appear to have been wrong about the SMS being directly supported though. I think that might be possible to do through your email client, but I haven't tried since when I'm away from my computer, I don't really care that I have a game ready because there's not anything I can do about it until I'm back at my computer.
