Is this possible in any way?

Once you've started, no, there isn't.

Not directly.

I think the accepted thing to do is to spread yourself thinly in your countries and allow yourself to be eliminated.

I've seen people suicide on some of the stronger players. That is, attack until you're down to one army in each country.

I've seen people suicide on the strongest player. Probably not a way to make friends with the strongest player, but if you're weak enough he may not even notice or care.

I've seen people stop attacking, just take their deployment each turn and do nothing, no attacking, no fortifying. They basically act like neutrals and eventually they are taken out by other players.

What I think you don't want to do is deadbeat. That is miss three turns in a row and you will be eliminated for missing turns. This is a very bad idea because you're essentially punishing everyone in the game making them wait 72 hours for you to be eliminated. If for some reason you feel you have to do this, at least have the courtesy to let the players know in the game chat.

A resign button would be a nice feature.

there used to be a resign button but it caused lots of problems so they got rid of it.

The person's armies would then go neutral, as if he had been eliminated due to missing turns?

Sounds like a reasonable idea to me.

Anything that eliminates needless delay from a game would be a good thing it seems to me. If people are deadbeating because they really want to leave the game and don't know how else to do it, then such a resign button sounds like a good idea.

Although I wasn't here when the resign button was around I have seen enough threads in the suggestion forum to know why it was done away with:
- people just surrender as soon as they don't look like winning - buggers up the game for other people to have an inactive player who can't affect the leader
-multis
- a few other points I can't remember...

Yeah, I don't think a resign button would be very good.

unless you limit the number of times a user can use it. Like once a day or 3 times per week or something.

A once per 24 hr is a good idea , but dead beats will just abuse that. They`ll resign go to the next games and if things are`nt going well they deadbeat anyway.24 hour ban for a2/3 game deadbeater?

i think there should be a consequence for the resign button. like losing x number of points every time u resign.

this will make players think twice before quitting

if you need to leave a game no matter what, then just explain to the other players and ask them what they want you to do....usually its just deadbeat...better than messing the game up by attacking someone who's willing to play it out

if you want to leave it because you cant possibly win, then thats just because you want to play another game and youre not a premium...but since the game is free...there is no reason this option needs to be available....

so really there is no reason for the button....if you are going to lose...youre going to lose....if you cant finish it....you arent going to anyways....ive had plenty of players that just had to leave the game forever just ask to deadbeat....almost everyone always understands

Such a button just promotes poor sportsmanship in my honest opinion.

I'm not sure I understand how a resign button promotes poor sportsmanship.

Let's look at the reasons for leaving a game:

1) I really have to go, say I'm going into the hospital or something. I just need to extricate myself from the game, there's no way I can continue. I hit the resign button, I lose my points, but the rest of the players can finish the game without any delay due to me deadbeating. I have a relatively impartial effect on the game since my armies go neutral.

2) I just want to leave because I'm bored or I realize I can't win. OK, this is a pretty lousy reason in my opinion. With the resign button, the player leaves the game immediately (before he has chance to influence the game in a negative way), and the rest of the players are frankly better off without this guy being around. For example, if he realizes he can't win maybe it's because he's made some really stupid plays like leaving the dominant player alone and attacking the weaker players. I want this type of guy out of the game as soon as possible. Preferably by elimination, but gone just the same.

I can't think of any other reason to leave a game.

In case 1 the player doesn't have bad intentions, life intervened and he's trying to make it as painless as possible for the remaining players in the game. I don't see the poor sportsmanship here.

In case 2 the player's a jerk. Is that really the kind of player we want to be playing with in a game. I say the sooner he's gone the better, the sooner he's gone the less damage he can do to the balance of the game. I see poor sportsmanship here on the part of the player who wants to leave, but it existed before he pressed the resign button. I don't see what purpose having him hang around, do stupid things in the game, and cause the other players needless delay serves.

To take an example from another game, it's actually considered somewhat poor sportsmanship to persist in a clearly losing position on the chessboard. A clearly defeated player in chess is expected to resign as a sign of good sportsmanship.

So, again, how does the resign button promote poor sportsmanship?

Maybe you're referring to something I haven't thought about....

If noobs have a bad starting position they resign before the first move is made.

Other options than 'surrender/resign' are being considered, which will alleviate most of those problems.

As for poor sportsmanship, would games be any fun if all your opponents left after the 4th round if you were doing well? Games would barely ever be completed, and I think the thrill and fun of victory would just go down the hole. :)

I guess you're right about some people. Me, they would have to pry my cold dead fingers from the dice before I would resign a game. As long as I've got a single army left I'm like Napoleon on Elba, plotting my comeback.

And it is fun to run out the end of a winning game.

I guess I'll wait to hear what the other options are.

I am very surprised that Andy hasn't said that people press it so that others wont get thier cards. That was the main reason, according to the update when it was eliminated.

If they did have a button like that, i think they should dock points if you use it.

It could be like 15 points to each player in the game or something. That way , people would be discouraged to use it, and also it wouldn't be too many points

Well...The reason I say this is because I've got 2 inactive games going...
Maybe have a Majority vote?

why not make it a premium feature, having it with people limited to 4 games? That is just inviting pressing it just to get on with another game.

or perhaps having as an option in the strating game, the main problem that im sure will keep coming up on this is people using it with multis for even easier points
