Revenge?

Just wondering what the thought of better players were about the natural reaction for revenge?
For instance a player niggles you the whole games and stops you getting a continent. By the time you have cards to trade in your effectively out of the game as all other players have strong fortified continents and you have nothing. My natural reaction is to attack the player who has pretty much put me out of the game rather than fight my own cause. I can't help sometimes thinking that the chances of me doing anything in this game are slim because of you so I may as well make sure you don't win! Even if it costs me the game and 30 points or whatever!
Sometime I supress this reaction but other times I give in
Any thoughts? I just wonder if one of the things that makes the top players so is good is their ability to not give into this and instead focus on their own game!
