freestyle simultaneous turns

Postby cicero on Sun Mar 11, 2007 6:47 am

Is the ability to take turns simultaenously in freestyle mode a bug?
If not it is a very confusing option.

If it is intentional please introduce a "freestyle - no simultaneous turns" mode.

It simply doesn't make sense [to me]. I get my armies, I deploy a few. Then whilst I'm considering where to deploy the rest some of my territories are lost. Since CC is based on Risk which is not a real time strategy game this is confusing. What real life situation is this modelling? I can only imagine if you played freestyle (with simultaneous turns possible) in real life you'd end up wrestling for the dice ...

Very interested to know other people's thoughts on this point and in particular from moderators as whether this is an intentional feature or a bug.

If (as a newb) I have actually completely misunderstood what is going on please do explain. As politely as possible ;)

It is not a bug, it is one of the interesting things about Freestyle play. If you don't like going simultaneously, you should be playing Sequential games.

If there's going to be a freestyle-no simultaneous turns option then bring back double turns!

That's freestyle. No simultaneous turns is sequential.

Why do people automatically report everything as a bug that they don't understand? Take time to ask questions, not report so-called "bugs". It's not just you, many do it.

Wasn't there a freestyle-no-simultaneous-turns-option in the making?

Because if that one is ever introduced I'll start playing freestyle again.

there are tons of options not like the board game....cards have different options

freestyle is definitely made up, and is only possible on a computer...

assasin is a new feature, which i dont believe is in the original board game,

but every new feature brings new strategies and interesting little quirks...and there will be more....

but, you may want to take some time to research some of the threads in this forum i bet therese a thousand pages devoted to freestyle games....theres some useful stuff there....you really need to know about it to win them

freestyle is simultaneous turns

realtime games will have shorter time limits so that they will go faster which is whats coming

there will probably be speed freestyle games too, which ive played on another site....and if you think 24 hour freestyle is crazy...wait till you try one of those...

I guess I'll stick to sequential then, because unless you log on every 30 minutes (at least!) you have little to no chance of winning.

Hang on a moment ...

No, sequential is:
P1, P2, P3, P4, P1, P2, P3, P4

Freestyle, defined in the rules on the site as "it doesn't matter in which order players take their turns", is:
P1, P3, P2, P4, P3, P2, P4, P1 (for example).

In the rules on the site, there is no mention of it allowing simultaneous turns.

Hence my post.

Note that my post has been [moved] to the bugs and suggestions section. I posted it in General Discussion.

I do understand what is happening. I didn't report it as a bug. I asked the question "is it a bug?" perhaps better phrased as "was it intentional when implementing the freestyle game mode to allow simultaneous moves?".

I fully appreciate that, in its current form, freestyle is a radical variant and has it's own tactics and subtleties.

However since the ability to make simultaneous turns, and all the real time factors that introduces to a turn based game, is not mentioned in the rules on the site it was, shall we say "interesting", to discover that possibility whilst playing rather than read it in the rules first.

Ah... My post moved by the moderator... Which I have just noticed seems to be you Wicked ...

OK rant, pretty much, over. Thanks to the rest of you who contributed variously useful responses.

you typed every thought didnt you? lol....but if it doesnt mention simultaneous...and just various order...it actually probably should...

and actually it couldnt hurt to add it in...it is pretty damn vague....mentioning simultaneous might be helpful...

In a freestyle game it doesn't matter in which order players take their turns. After the last player takes his turn, a new round begins immediately. The player who triggers a new round is not allowed to take a second back-to-back turn and must wait for someone else to play.

Also. I believe it was moved from Suggestions and Bug Reports to General Discussion. It's in General Discussion right now.

I was confused as hell my first couple of freestyle games. It took a different way of thinking to play. Now I enjoy them as most end up being real time games.

Which is good.

I am pretty sure that is where it started too.

These (this?) moderator(s) should be ... moderated.

Why would you have to log in every 30 minutes? You are allowed 1 turn each round. If you are the last in the you control the timing more than the others, you do have 24 hours to take your turn. I do believe freestyle is more fun if you play your turns more often.

Realtime freestyle is the best and most skilled game type - it set the adrenaline going in a way that sequential can't quite do, especially because of the simultaneous turns. This makes timing even more important.

Unfortunately, not enough of my freestyle games were realtime so I got pissed because it was more down to who can stay on the computer the longest than anything else. Hence I have since switched to playing nothing but sequential. Once speed games come in I will consider switching back again...
