Say for example that I am in a 8 player non-team game where 3 players have been eliminated. Those 3 players are not my opponents in any of my other games. Is it legitimate for any of those 3 players to sit for me in that particular 8 player game?

i could see a problem with it if it was a fog game. the sitter may recall troop size or placement of the other players from before they were eliminated.

a can't see a problem with sunny.

It depends on the settings. If it was terminator and the points the sitter would already hacve lost, then no problem. if he sitter could have an advantage to letting someone else win, then yes a problem.
In short, there may be cases where sitting for your opponant is fine, but I think it is going to most likely be a problem. I advise against it.
