what if everyone deadbeats? do you win without killing anyone?
I would hope lack coded the assassin games to include no simple loops... i.e., in a 4 person game you wouldn't have 1>2, 2>1, 3>4 and 4>3 for target selection. The loop needs to include all the players, one circle.
You're probably correct about it including all the players in one circle. But there's still a part of the original question unanswered. What happens when all but one player deadbeats? At that point does he inherit himself as a target from the last player to deadbeat? Does he have to kill himself in order to win the game? If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it does it still make a noise?
i guess what should happen is that when there is a single live player remaining in the game he automatically wins.
Maybe if all the players but one deadbeat in a game, the game just sits there and waits for the last player to deadbeat too!

Then the game takes all the points of all the players in the game and divides that number by zero. We all know what happens then...
