Dice Trolls

Hi Everyone!
This thread is created so that all those people out there who like to feel superior to dice complainers can go on and on about how super smart they are in their broad understanding of the nature of randomness (its not that complicated). While I feel that dice complainers have every right to their gripes, I feel that the "high horsemen" should have a special place as well to stroke each others egos and rattle on about how perfect they are. This way they can all stop trolling and pissing on every frustrated noob who has the audacity to post on the forums.
Enjoy!

If anything, both stick people in that cartoon should be made an example of. One reason is already pointed out by young man with the haircut on the right. What remains unmentioned is that the young man with the haircut seems to suffering from SUCK---Superiority Using Critical Know-how.

interesting thread Funky. I like the title.
but yeah for anyone who complains about anyone else the argument can be made that they found a way to "be superior" to them. But just because the argument can be made doesn't mean that it was the complainer's intention. I'm assuming your intention is to make the "dice complainer complainers" realize it and get over themselves?

Shield, tbh I think the people who troll the dice threads are basically predatory. The people who start these "dice" threads are new to the game and don't deserve the lashing that they get, especially by people who are doing it simply to puff themselves up. As far as the stick figure thing, I think natty is way off base. Although, natty didn't specify which character was supposed to be me... Am I suffering from SUCK as Andy suggested? An interesting thought which I am happy to explore, provided some evidence could be brought forth. My ultimate intention with this thread and any dice related thread is to defend some people's right to complain about the dice without the constant sneering of crusty old jaded players.

No, you're the left one.
"fundamentalist christians" being the dice complainers and "atheists" being the people who tell dice complainers how random numbers actually work.
Other than that, your comments are way off base. If you look at most dice complaint threads, most dice complainers are actually not new players like you, but older players. If you look even further, you'll notice that in a lot of cases the dice complainers are the ones "lashing out" while others are just trying to explain to them how random numbers work.
But hey, I guess you kinda enjoy being "the one guy who stands up for the small guy" as you perceive the situation... I guess you enjoy being all "high and mighty" while you tell the people who debate with dice complainers how they are being "high and mighty".

Natty -- I think it's time to write off FT as having no sense of humor and move on.

I've not noticed people trying to explain casually how the dice work (save meanest boss ever) but instead I see players mocking and joking about how silly they are being. It's just not constructive and I'm surprised to see how much people relish doing it. I don't see how defending someone against rude behavior has anything to do with being "high and mighty" but maybe someone can elucidate that for me?

Actually tbh I know members of both belief systems and from my experience FC's are generally pretty cool people aside from a few fanatical aspects but the atheists tend to be self-serving sad sacks so this cartoon is ALL WRONG. It doesn't even look like me! Disclaimer: These are the views of FT and his personal experiences and should not be taken as an offensive statement by any means.

The trouble with this old chap is that one can predict that, given some time for your own seasoning, you'll be bashing the noobs with gusto yourself. It is boringly typical for the new guy (such as yourself) to defend the new guy, given a year you'll be in the 'faux-experienced' camp bashing the hell out of the noob and finally, if you stick around long enough, you'll find such threads so tedious in the extreme that you won't even bother reading them.
Assuming you just don't
like writing about maths
that is, in which case you will forever be in these threads educating 'the deluded, the ill-informed and the simply insane.' However, these geniuses are so depraved that there is simply no hope. They are not in there to mock the weak (which has some merit) but rather get their pleasure in endlessly disgorging numbers in post after post. There are posters here that must have written dozens (possibly hundreds?) of posts explaining odds to the idiotic. They are just as sick as the worst 'dice conspiracy theorist' in my view, just as determined to spew their rubbish all over GD.
So, in conclusion, I would allow every dice thread to have a clean run, I wouldn't stand in the way of anyone's right to rip the piss, but I would ban immediately any poster who made efforts to explain odds to the masses for two reasons...
1. Their little brains can't take it.
2. It is just an excuse for boring arses to write useless bollocks. They ruin what would otherwise always be perfectly enjoyable threads as they shoot numbers about rather like a form of numerical masturbation.

Ahh, I think I see now master Yoda.
So basically you are saying that a lot of the defenders of the dice are really just mathophiles?
This is a perspective that I had not considered, being a noob as so many take the time to point out (i'm ok with this, really). The "mathophile theory" as I will now call it has its merits but you have to admit that a good portion of the Dice Trolls are simply aping what they've heard someone else say, sneering all the way. I should hope that years from now I have better things to do on here than pick on noobs, its so very bourgeois.

You misunderstand me (a little).
There is never anything wrong with ripping the intelligent, noob or not. You are fair game regardless of your level of experience. But don't try to claim I'm a nasty, horrible man for picking on you (as you inferred), it makes you appear to be both disingenuous and frankly weak. Though continue down that road and many won't bother with you anymore so have at it.
It is basically farming (in different sense) for the smart to mock the stupid. There is little value in it (rather like farming) but just as I defend the farmer's right to farm i would defend anyone's right to belittle the weak here.
It is disgusting in the extreme to spew numbers all over GD, for it is the combination of bastards writing bollocks combined with the madness of the dice-freak that make those threads completely unreadable. If our more beta posters limited themselves to simply abusing the poor deluded fools then those threads would actually be very enjoyable to read, it is the continuous need for some to show how smart they are (in comparison often to a chap with more balls than brain cells) that ruins what would otherwise be perfectly good sport.

I actually appreciate the advice, was just having a bit of fun. In re-reading my post I can see I appeared a smart ass but no real inference tbh. Weak? Owch lol. Anyway, I have seen some great posts by knowledgeable individuals that are in no way belittling to the dice complainers. These posts, as you stated are thoroughly enjoyable and refreshing. The writers of said posts are reminiscent of kindly and wise old men. The true Dice Trolls, and they know who they are, are more akin to children who enjoy drowning puppies.
