Don't Know What You Got Til It's Gone

Just bored so wanted to post this ....

I have threatened many times to quit this site because I didn't agree with some things I was seeing .... and often enough was drawn back in because there are so many good things and enjoyable people I have met here that I thought I'd miss it all too much ....

Then I came to grips with 'random' and all that it encompasses, was okay for a while .... then started seeing a real pattern emerge - and won't rehash it all here .... so though streaks are inherent to a random system - patterns are NOT ...

and I complained a bit and threatened to leave again .... noticed my premium was close to lapsing so I started declining game invites in case I really was going to leave ... then I recently fell on hard times (out of my control - health, etc.) and realized I couldn't renew if I wanted to ....

so all these scatterbrain words amount to what I am about to say next .... you don't know what you've got til its gone .... in other words despite the deficiencies (percieved and otherwise) of this site, the value of time spent here far outweighs the frustration felt at times. I really miss the speeds already and with only 4 games on the go it feels like I'm crawling at snails pace.

So ..... when I am able to buy back into premium again .... I won't be vocal about the state of the dice, and will instead concentrate on enjoying the games on great maps, with some great people I have come to know ... learning to appreciate my blessings is important .... that and trying to sneak $26 past the wife on the credit card .....

Maybe I'll start rolling some pennies ..... and in the meantime .... I'll keep looking for ways to stay active on the forums as I pass the time missing the games I should have appreciated more when I had the chance to .....

May this be a lesson ............

I guess I'd have to have walked a mile in donkey's shoes.

Doesn't anyone have the dough to buy this guy premium? There are some "contests" out there that are going to award possible total knobs with a premium membership. Hopefully you win the essay contest, donkey. Gl.

Funky

This was never intended to be a 'buy me premuim' thread .... it was a thread about how I felt and what I missed, etc. I'm the kind of guy that just says what I think, and if I wanted to beg for something, I'd just come out and ask.

I think you've hit on one of the key aspects of CC. I'll definitely be among some of the first to admit we've got still a long ways to go towards perfection, but I do think we're heading towards refinement.

Think of CC as a little like old Alchemy, and what you've hit upon as the 'Quintessence:' "...It can be thought of as the ethereal embodiment of the life force that we encounter... It is the purest individual essence of something that we must unveil and understand in order to transform it. "

Perhaps you've hit upon CC's Quintessence, and because of your understanding of it, you are able to transform your interaction with CC.
