I mean seriously, I've learned a lot from surfin' CC. (1): The geographic maps are thoroughly checked for accuracy. This allows you to learn about geography while playing. I know where Dubai is because of the classic map. (2): the many political discussions that go on here are very cerebral. I've learned about many current events through this forum. (3): many different views are expressed on this site = enrichment. I haven't changed my views hardly at all by listening to your posts, but they've helped me to solidify where I stand and why. (4): Students could easily work together to make maps and stuff for a class project, say for a geography class. (5): Students could have class discussions about past historical events in the forums and other CC members could also add their 10 cents (2 cents adjusted for inflation).
Of course, CC is not my main source of knowledge, these are the highlights.

Most often political threads turn into shouting matches, with rhetoric vs rhetoric with hardly any room for critical thought or discussion -
Not really the environment that would warrant acadamic achievement

this forum has more diverse views and discussion than my political science university class. admittedly that's not saying much, though.

Wait until you take my Sex Ed class next term. Regrettably the headmaster has made me cancel the lab section. But it will still be informative.

You should change your economics teacher to Doctor Brown, Mr. Cake or Mr. Changsha (wow, that last one fits).

CC is more educational than half the classes I had to do at high school. Though that's not saying much.

Don't get me wrong...I like a lot of what you said in the paragraph and the items you listed from a personal enrichment standpoint. But not for high school credit.

Sorry, no dice. I mean, I passed a couple of grammer quizes thanks grammer rock around TV cartoons, but credit? No.

At my high school CC could easily be worth 6 credits. You can take a year off as long as you do CC for a year. However, my high school was a joke. I got my Phys-Ed credit for free ( I did absolutely nothing). I got 7 credits in a Special Program where the only homework was reading the newspaper and we certainly do a lot of that here. Seriously, if special needs kids can graduate high school then CC should count as a credit.

Most special needs kids work far harder than your average high school student.. and therefore their later success is often higher than many of the gifted "lazabouts".
There is nothing to be ashamed in not having great gifts. There absolutely is something to be ashamed of those given great gifts who simply are too lazy to use them.

Don't be sad that it is
generally assumed that I have more knowledge than you of economics..even if I have never studied it or even read a book (specifically) on it.
I mean hey, I still count on my fingers (and toes for really tricky problems), I don't understand calculators and I haven't drawn a graph since I was fifteen...but still it is
widely felt that I could teach economics better than you.
This doesn't surprise me at all teaching assistant pimp. I'll let you sit at the back with the fat kid trying to chew his own man-boobs off, the dyslexic with the 'defecation issues' and the boy in the wheelchair who just dribbles. You can tell those kids that you are the one actually qualified to teach this class, while I strut around the stage telling witty anecdotes about Norman Lamont's prostitutes...

This is such bullshit. Having special needs (which is frankly just a leftish term for not being all that bright in many cases) doesn't equate to working harder. Just as high a percentage of those kids will be lazy little bastards....and with regards to the middle class ones (with their deluded parents simply unable to accept that little Jimmy is just a bit thick) I don't doubt that a higher percentage of those kids are actually lazier than your typical lefty.
Is anyone just a stupid, lazy bastard in your world? Or do you have an excuse for them all?
Serious question.

This really isn't true. And that's not a knock against the special needs kids, but rather putting up the average high school student. Special needs kids aren't any more special in that regard, at all.
PLAYER57832 wrote:and therefore their later success is often higher than many of the gifted "lazabouts".
Lazy is lazy, whether it's a gifted student or a special needs student.
PLAYER57832 wrote:There is nothing to be ashamed in not having great gifts. There absolutely is something to be ashamed of those given great gifts who simply are too lazy to use them.
That would apply to any gift.
